From Eklund: The latest Habs news is very interesting. A source out of Florida tells me that the Habs are now targeting Nathan Horton. They have made inquiries about Jokinen as well, but these have been denied to this point.Sure... ben oui... What is it we have on our roster that could interest Florida to give us either their franchise forward and captain or their best young forward? Perezhogin maybe... n'import quoi

The only player on the Habs roster that could land someone like Horton would be Ryder.
But even still, it wouldn't be a one-for-one deal. The Habs would have to pony up something else.

Well, something like Ryer + Price might fetch a guy like Horton. What is Horton's potential? If he's going to be producing at the same rate as Ryder, I'd rather hold onto him. It's not worth losing Price over that.

Including him as a throw-in to a deal wouldn't be fair IMO. I was thinking something along the lines of Ryder + mid-level prospect + 3rd rd. pick.

I'm not giving up Price in that deal........ until he's proven otherwise he's our legit goalie for the next 15 years.I'm quite sure he's going nowhere. I'd love Horton though exactly the type of player we need and he'd compliment Gui upfront. If he's available I go after it with Ryder plus another of our so-called flashy smurfs we have a hold orchard full of those to play with. HFTO

Right now Ryder's hot, if there is a prospective deal with Florida, now's the time to do it. Oh and btw, I'm not saying trade Ryder because I don't like him. I like Ryder and have nothing against him. I just think that Horton would be major upgrade and if a trade is there, then Gainey should go for it. Including Ryder in a deal like this is more a compliment to Ryder than an insult. There I hope this clears up any confusion (Skilly).

Personally, now with all the cap room we have I'd like to see Bob hang onto Ryder. I'd be offering Abby/Halak (Florida has squat with regards to goalies) and one of our two first round picks, along with a mid-level prospect. (Perezhogin)
If that doesn't get us Horton, than I don't want him.

Must like his Internet handle or something. Still, it wouldn't surprise me if Gainey is targeting Norton. He's a Gainey type player. Cheers.

It's not worth losing Price over that. I too am not ready to give up Ryder, a proven scorer at the NHL level (on a team with precious few scorers) for potential. Ryder is skating faster and playing better. I don't know why he isn't appreciated outside of Skilly and I? Price was selected in the first round, a rare hab's #5 overall pick. He is continuing his development and progress as well as can be expected. Give up on him now? Definately wild speculation.

Ryder has been our leading goal scorer since cracking the Habs lineup almost four years ago. It would take something extremely special to unload this guy. Given the way he's been playing of late, I think he's coming out of his funk just at the right time. At this point I don't care about his shortfalls. He scores goals and that's a department we're lacking in. If at all possible then keep him. Cheers.

These appearances on mainstream media give him credibility, deserved or not. BTW, whatever happened to CODE?

Well, actually buds...I hate to pull a "skilly" on you but in the 2 full seasons he's played he's never been our leading scorer. In his rookie-year (03-04) he finished 2nd in scoring to Ribeiro and 2nd in goals to Zednik. His sophomore season he finished 3rd in scoring to Kovalev and Koivu but did in fact top the team in goals-scored with 30; Kovalev scored 23 while missing 13 games and the rookie Higgins scored 23 in 80 games. Great numbers, but only the top "goal-scorer" on the team once thus far in his career. Currently he's 2nd on the team to Souray. Nitpicking, I know...sorry CO

He said ... "since" cracking the line-up.
Name one player on the Habs that has scored more goals than Ryder since 2003-04. Answer. None.

I'd say he's been our most consistent goal scorer then. Others may disagree with that but I could care less; opinions vary. Still would have to be a sweet package to move him out of Montreal IMHO. Have to replace those goals with something. Cheers.
