From TSN: The Anaheim Ducks have traded defenceman Shane O'Brien and a third round pick to the Tampa Bay Lightning for goaltender Gerald Coleman and a first round pick. Great move for Burke. O'Brien's been Anaheim's #5 defenseman in Time on Ice, with 2G, 12A and 140 PIM. His penalty minutes are mostly put up in bunches so I'd designate him as a dman who can drop the gloves, even though I've never seen him. I bet Burke trades that first for a forward by the deadline Edit: forgot the link to the article www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story/?ID=197501&hubname=nhl

...they move a roster player for a pick...
...odd for a contender. There's gotta be more to this...

Strange team from which to buy goalie insurance. Tampa's first two are questionable and Anaheim's got a 1 and 1a. Or at least a b and 2b. That is the question.

They moved their 5th Dman for a 1st rounder....they've basically opened up a spot on their D ...I am thinking the first was aquired to then trade for a Dman...Souray anyone?
That's the rumor!

Why in the world does Feaster give up a first rounder for a guy like O'Brien?
O'Brien is a #5/6 defenceman. Was it really necessary for Feaster to give up his 1st rd. pick?
Imagine the panic on this board if Gainey had given up the Habs' first rounder for O'Brien...

From Burke's point of view the deal was too good to pass up and he just gained something more valuable (imo) than O'Brien, to non-playoff teams. If Anaheim makes another trade before the deadline I'm almost certain this pick will be moved.

Imagine the panic on this board if Gainey had given up the Habs' first rounder for O'Brien... He is not averse to trading 1st rounders. He did give up the #4 over all (Pitkanen) for Fedotenko. I know Tampa wpn the Cup that year with Fedotenko in the lineup but it's still a hard deal for me to understand.

Pundits have tabbed this year's entry draft as the weakest in a decade. Sit tight and pluck a Streit or Halak in the 9th round.

Pundits have tabbed this year's entry draft as the weakest in a decade. Sit tight and pluck a Streit or Halak in the 9th round. From what I've read, it's considered weak mainly because there isn't a "generational" talent available this year. However, many say that the strength of this year's crop is that quality players will be available well into the second round.
