Habs are in the East but I doubt they will react.

You see, this is what I'm talking about.
Atlanta has been in a tailspin that was putting their playoffs spot in great danger. What do they do? Fold and sell? No sire, they made some season saving moves.
Tkachuck for Metropolit and a 2nd... Anybody still think the great Souray can get us a top prospect...

I vote for Steve Bernier—check that, we already have Latendresse.

If Montreal misses the playoffs, GM Bob Gainey has some explaining to do about his lack of activity.

The difference there may be because Zhitnik has 1-2 years left on his contract so he's not really a rental.

Habs were in a TWO MONTH long tailspin and our management team decided to do nothing. If Montreal misses the playoffs, GM Bob Gainey has some explaining to do about his lack of activity. I think we caught a Columbus-Washington updraft...followed by a strong gust of wind from Vokoun. Because the tailspin continued on Long Island....how else can we explain coming out flat in the first two periods and getting only 13 SOG in the final 40 minutes. We made the Isles' defense look like Niedermeyer, Lidstrom, Phaneuf, and Pronger. If we had lost 3-2 with DiPietro stoning a relentless 44-shot Habs' barrage...then I'd say the effort was there, but a hot goalie stole it away. If the tailspin is over...we'll know after tomorrow's game. If we can't rev up the turbines for the Leafs who are just one point behind with 2 games in hand....then we are done, IMO. And then it's time to sell. That's the first time I've said the S word.

If that indeed is the deal for Tkachuk, we should be able to get a couple of 1st rounders for SS. Defencemen are much more valuable, even those who have a tendency for occasional sloppy play in their own end.

I've been saying it for a while now why aren't the Habs ever proactive? This team needed help before the slide, a month in should have should have set the alarm bells into overdrive, even a great deal now maybe too late. HFTO

Tkachuk is a forward and he doesn't even have as many points or goals as Souray. Souray should be worth quite a bit if the right match can be made, and quite a bit is better than the nothing we'll have if we let him walk. Plus, I really think we could do a trade-and-resign with him like Philly is doing with Forsberg. If he wants to play in Montreal, he'll be still be willing to sign if we rent him out for the playoffs.
