Says his back is healed and he's ready to play. Not travelling with the Panthers.
All fingers point to a move.
Any takers?

I'd stay away from this guy like the plague...
If Florida gave up Luongo for this guy and now want to get rid of him, I can't see how he could help our dressing room. I really believe this guy is a headcase and cannot bring anything positive in the medium to long term.

McKenzie says this guy is as good as gone. - that Florida has offers. That surprises me because he hasn't played for so long.
At his best he can be a real force but we haven't seen that form for a while. I don't think he's worth much more than prospects or conditional picks now.

I'd take Bert anyday in my top 6 in lieu of Perezhogin/Samsonov.

Depends on the asking-price. If reasonable, then of course.

If we were on the cusp maybe, but from here I can't even see the cusp on my gps. Isn’t Bertuzzi on IR? What’s his status? As for giving up Perezhogin and a 1st for a rental like Smyth then that’s the market that was set with the Forsberg deal. Call it overpaying but the price to acquire a player that could put you over the top is high. Dealing Perezhogin doesn’t bother me since we have some organization depth at the position with Kostitsyn on the way and we got an extra 1st from SJ. The chances of signing a career western conference player like Smyth is low but his scoring and tenacity would be a welcome addition right now.

Florida has some leverage now that SJ has picked up Guerin. Burke can complain all he wants about the prices but he may have to pony up.

He'd better pony quickly; available first-tier guys are going fast.

Burke is more proactive than reactive, but with Nashville adding, and now SJ, he has to be at least thinking.

Bert will land here with the Beagle. I tell ya. I saw that in the other thread, and Keenan was trying to suggest Belfour could end up here. I can't say I see it happening. What's putting that notion in your head? The deal you mentioned was two free agents from Florida to one free agent from us. I'm not sure Florida is interested in that sort of move, and I really have no interest in Bert. Way too many question marks around him, and I frankly don't think he can handle the pressure of playing in Montreal. I think Cujo is a better fit in Montreal, if Gainey hasn't given up attempts to upgrade their goaltending. He's a good team guy, he's not a distraction, he doesn't have the back problems Eddie has, and he's a little younger.

Nobody will give much to Florida for Belfour as he is on his last legs but he’s a playoff warrior that's been there and done that and he did it with Bob and Guy so they know him: his good and bad sides. Contrary to most, I don’t believe Abby’s NHL career is over because he gave up 4 goals in a win last night. He’s still a decent goalie. Bert like him or not, is an impact player. I’d like him this spring for his 40 goals potential and physical presence. Gainey has been rumoured to have interest in him before…

I don't disagree with the merit. Just wondering if it's a hunch on your part, or someone else.

So it works out to Shawn Matthias and a conditional draft pick for Luongo.

The Wings have the depth to let Bertuzzi work his way into the lineup. In Montreal, he would to have to make an impact right away....and that's what's wrong with our team.

True, had not though of that. The Wings are going to let him work into shape, the Habs don't have the luxury of waiting for that.
