I posted the link at the trade rumors board but I hadn't really thought about if BG was in this. Dallas would get Numminen the 3rd team would get Sydor but what does Phoenix get for their top d-man? they are loaded on D so they should not be getting another D-man here and they have alot of good enough forwards. A goalie prospect maybe? Habs would have to trade a D-man or two if we go for Sydor since we have a logjam there...

Habs would have to trade a D-man or two if we go for Sydor since we have a logjam there... Lets not confuse "logjam" with "piles of manure nobody wants to walk through." Sydor would be an upgrade on just about every one of the so-called defenseman we have vying for the 4th-5th-6th and 7th spots. I mean really, Quintal, Traverse, Dykhuis, Bouillon? That's not a log jam, that's an embarrassment. At times last year, 3 of those 4 were all playing at the same time! Ugh. Not one of them should be more than a 6th or 7th defenseman. Sydor is a top 4 guy. If we could get him (at a reasonable price, of course), you do it. Then you cut one or two of Dykhuis or Traverse or Bouillon (or all three, what the heck). Markov - Brisebois Sydor - Rivet Souray - Komisarek (Hainsey/Quintal) Ain't nothing wrong with that.

"piles of manure nobody wants to walk through." LMAO!!!! ~~~~~~~~~~~ Yes, Sydor IS an upgrade. We have SEVERAL number 6's on this team. Komo and Hainsey can not be considered anything better at THIS point then any of the other trash. The problem is, how much do you pay if it is not important to achieve anything great. By next year (no lock out presumed) Komo and/or Hainsey may move into the top four.

Markov - Brisebois Sydor - Rivet Souray - Komisarek (Hainsey/Quintal) Ain't nothing wrong with that. No sir, t'ain't. But being a fella of litigious disposition... Sydor-Brisebois because Daryl can ground Paris Brisket's fanciful flights most efficaciously. Markov-Rivet because they have had great chemistry in the past, and Craig, being the good sport that he is, would gladly stay at home and let Andrei range far and wide in his mission to "punish the opposition with goals". In a nutbar, PB and Andrei's styles are too much alike to have them paired together without radically diminishing the effectiveness of one of them, and therefore the pair in toto. As I recall from last season when these two played together, Andrei's +/- rating took a nosedive, and there was constant confusion over who would rush and who would stay back.

Lets not confuse "logjam" with "piles of manure nobody wants to walk through." logjam, crap no one wants, whatever. It's still too many bodies and a few need to be moved regardless. also for those wondering, Sydor makes 5 million per year for the next 3 seasons.

it's official: www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?id=48072The Columbus Blue Jackets have sent centre Mike Sillinger and a second round draft pick to the Dallas Stars for defenceman Darryl Sydor. The Stars then sent Sillinger and a draft pick to the Phoenix Coyotes for Teppo Numminen, who waived his no-trade clause to go to Dallas. wow, great deal for the BJ's.

Why did Dallas acquire another defenseman in Numminen who strictly plays the right side when they have three others in the same boat with Zubov, Boucher, Robidas ??
Their left side now includes a very erratic (and all of a sudden very old looking) Richard Matvichuk, Erskine, and Don Sweeney. Holy Crap ... the best one of that bunch (Matvichuk) couldn't break into the top 3 left side of the Habs.
Makes no sense unless they plan on shipping off Zubov and his 6 million salary as well for help on the left side.
How bad was that Turgeon contract ... Dallas has to basically rip their team apart to fit him into their budget 2 years later ... ugh !!!!

good point AH...hmm maybe they think Zubov has the smarts and skating skills to play the left side?

also for those wondering, Sydor makes 5 million per year for the next 3 seasons. isn't it something like 3.3 - 3.5 mil./year? does anyone remember what were the offers for Numminen at the last year's trading deadline? good deal for the Jackets. R.

I would hope they're getting something better than Sillinger and a 2nd for their top defender. That's a pretty weak deal for Pho as it stands. They could have probably picked up a Sillinger calibre player for next to nothing.

isn't it something like 3.3 - 3.5 mil./year? I don't remember but it could be that amount now and it jumps up to the 5 mil range next year..

here's what I found: "Sydor, who is in the second year of a five-year, $15.8 million contract..." www.tsn.ca/nhl/news_story.asp?ID=48072&hubName=nhl"The Jackets, who earlier this month signed free agents Todd Marchant and Trevor Letowski, added more to their payroll with Sydor due to earn $3.5 million next season." slam.canoe.ca/Slam030722/nhl_cbjdalpho-cp.html5 mil. would make no sense for the Jackets, IMHO. they are a few years away from giving that sort of money to one player who isn't even considered a top player in this league. no big deal. that 5 mil./year thing just didn't feel right to me when CBJ are concerned.
