...according to Eklund the HABS and CAPS are talking about Kovalev.
The CAPS do have a lot of cap space, need veteran support and definitely have a strong Russian connection...

Undoubtedly the beginning of many “Kovalev to…” rumors, most of which will involve some sort of Russian connection, I’m guessing.
Here, I’ll start my own;
“According to sources, the Montreal Canadiens and Pittsburgh Penguins are talking about a possible trade involving disgruntled Canadiens forward Alexie Kovalev. The Habs are said to want a 2nd round pick, and defenseman Mark Eaton, while the Penguins are asking for defenseman Francis Bouillon as well. It is felt that a move to his old team and a pairing with Russian prodigy Evgeni Malkin would be beneficial to both Kovalev and the Penguins. Kovalev, former captain of the Russian National team, could help Malkin continue to adjust to North American language and culture, while Malkin could help revive Kovalev’s moribund career. Kovalev’s best years in the NHL were in Pittsburgh.”

Malkin could help revive Kovalev’s moribund career. ;D Thank you! Too bad my son asked for and received a Kovalev jersey a couple of years ago. Ah, well . . . we were at one time trying for Zednik!

I even felt it could have happened last February.

I had completely forgotten about Eklund. I know Eklund is not the most accurate source in the world but I figured what the hey, let's spark a discussion...

Washington may be one of the few dance partners we could have with Kovalev. We'd need to take back a large salary possibly. Does anyone on Washington make a large salary? (not counting Kolzig)

(not counting Kolzig) After Ovechkin (whose salary is only 0.894M, but he made 8.55M in rookie bonuses, for a cap hit of 3.834M) the highest paid player on Washington is Brian Pothier at 2.5 Million.

(not counting Kolzig) I could be mistaken, but I believe Washington is actually going to have to raise their salary levels, to meet the cap minimum. Just saying, is all.
