But what does Eklund say?

After Nash, there isnt a single player on the Blue Jackets that interests me .... Svitov? Brule? .... neither would jump right into our line-up and mesh.
If Gainey is trying to trade up I hope he doesn't give too much away .... odds are Esposito will be there when we go to the mic ... and if we trade up and don't select the local boy? Well ... it could get ugly in the media.
This report of trying to trade up seems to be in direct contrast to the inside info we have heard from Timmins. You know, Timmins hopes Espo is off the board when they pick, ..... trading up only makes sense if they go up as high as #4. If they trade up to #7 they almost have to pick Esposito (and we heard the Habs don't like Ellerby so ..... just saying something doesn't smell right)

I had Chimera in the HabsRus pool thing.
15-21-36, +2, puts him in Higgins territory. 91 pm, 15.22 mins per game.

Chimera is no Higgins. He is a good 3rd/4th line player though that plays with intensity. Personally I'd like Chimera better than Latté, Salamalek or even Johnson but I would not give up much to get him. Certainly not a first for sure.

Bringing him into Montreal might give Gainey more options. You mentioned Latté. Well, signing Chimera might give Gainey another option like assigning Latté to Hamilton. There might be an outside chance that Latté won't report to Hamilton and if he decides to go to Europe, then Gainey saves that much more in cap space, which is something he might have had in mind anyway. Given who the Blue Jackets have on their roster, what does Chimera mean to his club? Would this be a consideration in any trade? Big, fast, strong Canadian hockey player who can kill penalties ... bring him in. Cheers.

A 6'2", 206lbs, speedy forechecking third liner that pots 15 goals, was +2 on a minus team, has 91 pim, has miss 2 games in the last two years... well that should be welcomed on any team. If only he wasn't that bald.

If only he wasn't that bald. And he played pretty well in the World Championships when I watched. He has one year left on his deal at 1 million according to www.nhlnumbers.com. I believe the new GM (Howson I think) was the assistant in Edmonton so he probably knows Chimera from his days with the Oilers. As for the baldness, maybe he can find Theodore's Rogaine supplier. However, TFP has never been the most reliable source.

...Timmins apparently said yesterday that in his opinion Esposito will go between 5 and 8.
BJ have the #7 pick.
Connect the dots.

Fedorov, Colombus' 7th for Ryder, Habs' 12th We solve 4 problems! - Top 2 C (Fedorov, and/or Esposito) - Top 4 D (Fedorov, that's right he played there last year) - Reaching salary cap upper limit (Fedorov and his 6 millions - UFA next year) - A new friend for Kovalev!

You hate HA, don't you? Will you visit him in the hospital when he reads of this trade? I'm not sure problem 3 is one that is pressing. And in solving 4, we replace them: - gain of top 2 C is replaced with presence of another floater. - gain of top 4 D is replaced with presence of another floater. - A new friend for Kovalev doubles the floaters. I'd rather Chimera. And i'd rather pass on Espo -- someone I fear will turn into, yes, you've got it, another floater.

Just saw the TSN preview of the possible top picks .... they said "make no bones about it, Esposito wants to play in Montreal to prove his detractors wrong. He has a huge chip on his shoulder about people doubting him." Ok Doc ... now I want him. We need that passion!

He did say so, but I remember hearing Bob MacKenzie saying that while the Habs have expressed their interest in Esposito, he isn't the only player they're interested in. It's possible Montreal may move up in the draft and take another player instead. Just what I caught. Cheers.

If they trade up to pick Esposito, I may need to be institutionalized!

If they trade up to pick Esposito, I may need to be institutionalized! LOL, yeah I am hoping they go elsewhere if he is still available at 12th. I would much rather have McDonagh or Eller. Wonder who they are targetting? Voracek, Gagner or Alzner perhaps.

Gainey said yesterday on RDS that many deals were in place around the league but all were conditional on who was available at what time in the draft.

One last tidbit: Questioned yesterday about the famous HABS cap that he wore all season long last year, Espo replied: "...I hope I'll get a new one friday..."

...Chimera + Columbus 7th for Kovalev and HABS 22nd. IMO, Kovalev wants the Pens, the Preds, the Sharks, the Ducks....but there are cap issues all around there, I assume. I hope he gets the Blue Jackets so he can join the "youth movement" with Fedorov. I wrote this post in frustration after Kovalev's second "interview" with the Russian press...the one in which he told Gainey that he wouldn't want to come back if he was used in the same way...blah blah.... If such a trade transpires, it will be a most unlikely wish come true.
