Thursday August 14 2003 - The St-Jean Mission and Garaga de Saint-Georges made a second trade in less than 15 days. This time, the Missiom yielded Rob Montgomery to Garaga. In return, Tony Ciarciello obtained the rights to veteran goalie André Racicot. Immediately after that, the Mission put under contract a true colossus by the name of Rob Skrlac. Racicot was a Montreal Canadiens draft choice in 1989. He played for five years with the Tricolore. He was on the last edition of the Canadiens to win the Stanley Cup, in 1993. In addition to his stay in the NHL, Racicot has a long playing history on minor pro American teams. He was also one of the rare North American players, to have played in Russia. The Rouyn-Noranda born goalie returned to Quebec in 2001, in the uniform of the Granby Blitz, then last year with Garaga. Questioned on this trade, general manager Tony Ciarciello explained that he must now sit down with Racicot, in order to offer a contract proposal. "Andre is an experienced veteran.. He could bring leadership to our team. It's because of that that I wish to meet with him very soon." - www.rds.ca/hockey/chroniques/HOCKEYSEMIPR3F3B3AE3.html

Remember when our biggest problem was our back-up goalie? How the mighty have fallen indeed.

I think Pat Burns made the comment that Racicot would only ever lead the league in one catagory, looking behind himself after making a save.
Think confidence at the NHL level was a problem with that and a nickname or Red Light?

He never stood a chance in Montreal. With Roy around no goalie would. Roy's skates are some of the hardest to fill.

Racicot is like an ageing hooker in Amsterdam, waiting under a red light and hopeing for one more payday.

Garon's backup won't be far away now. I'm sorry, I thought that Garon was the back-up.

At the moment? Is he getting traded where he'll be the starter?

At the moment? Is he getting traded where he'll be the starter? Maybe him. Maybe the other guy. All I know is that I am sleeping much better knowing that Racicot is but a phone call away.

Maybe him. Maybe the other guy. I'm pretty sure I've read several times that the other guy is not up for sale.

Well, you know politicians, they'll say what it takes to keep the masses calm and themselves in power. If he was for sale, he would have been long gone by now. I don't think they would just say something to keep people quiet. Regardless, they also said that no teams have been making offers for him. Unfortunately, it's the very same case for Brisebois.

I know I only believe the bad stuff I read about the Habs. ;D Once Gretzky was traded for the first time, the concept of an untradeable NHL player went through the boards.

Gretzky was traded because of salary, not because of an over-reacting media. Whatever the reason, he *was* traded. After a 149 point season, and 19 goals in 24 playoff games to help the Oilers win the Stanley Cup. He made it possible for the Tremblay/Houle/Corey panic re Roy to be justifiable in their minds. No player is safe any more when the right offer comes along.

No player is safe any more when the right offer comes along. Well, that won't work either, because no offer has come along so far. No, I don't believe everything I read, and even if I did, then I guess it would be my problem for being gullible. Sorry, but until there is a verified fact that José is on the trading block, I'll stick to believing that he's not going anywhere. Wow...we've certainly drifted off-topic, haven't we? Wasn't this thread about Andé Racicot?

Wow...we've certainly drifted off-topic, haven't we? Wasn't this thread about Andé Racicot? Yes, well, André Racicot is a mythic figure. In my mind at any rate. Shows you how my gray matter works (or not), eh? As far as Théo: he's here right now. And that does not bother me. If he should have a GAA around 3.00 after 20 games, my nose will explode and take down the board. I expect big things from him. Bigger than my nose.

Well, er, because this was during André's "blue" period. Hopefully, this coming season will not bring too much "red light" to make your nose "blue".
