Bob Gainey? With MT's Uhh .. "Error".... who knows how long he lasts. Would Bo not look great behind our bench? Would a perfect world not have Bob Gainey as head coach and Larry Robinson as his assistant? Hmmmm. Thoughts?
Cheers

Interesting idea. Gainey and Robinson both behind the Habs bench would be a dream come true. I suggested a while back that if Jacques Martin is not fired by the Sens in the summer, that AS should look into hiring Robinson. And I would still love one of the two to take over the Habs after this season. (Especially after tonight's "lineup shuffling" by MT).
As for a Gainey and Robinson coaching tandem, it would be interesting to attempt it, (and there is no doubt as to the gains this team would make if such a change was implemented), but after being a GM for almost 10 years, I don't think Gainey would want to step into a coaching job again.
Also, do you think AS would be a little intimidated by having someone like Gainey in the organization. First of all, Gainey would be able to analyze any trade AS makes. And second of all, if AS ever falters, Gainey would be breathing down his neck to take over the GM's chair.
Just a couple of things to think about.
Nice topic Habits.

Thank you Ghost You also raise some interesting points. I would hope that AS would consider the welfare of the team, and not his ego , and avoid hiring a Bob Gainey if the chance were there. If Gainey is ther e, you gotta try to get him here. His record speaks for itself. dallas went from a basement resident to a Stanley VCup winner in under a decade with him there. Lets just see what happens , shall we Cheers. habits

A Gainey-Robinson duo is downright scary...I can just imagine us playing Dallas Stars hockey...think of it, no excitement(compared to what we have now) and slightly better defensively...
We need a coach who understands we don't have the roster to play the trap, we have the kind of team that has to skate to be effective, we can't plug up the neutral zone because we are too small!

Coco Lemaire as Head Coach and Carbo and Big Bird as assistants? I thought about Serge Savard as pres but he and Larry don't get along whatsoever; a past money issue I've been told. Coco wouldn't come back to the "Pressure Cooker" as a coach, he's already made that clear. But that's my team, Bob. Cheers.

HFTO Look at the Stars lineup(when they were winning)...look at the names Modano, Nieuwendyk, Hull, Morrow, Langenbrunner,etc...these are all incredibly talented individuals, yet they played the trap.Gainey certainly had a say...

Isn't Nieuwendyk with New Jersey now? Still you're right though. They have the talent that's for sure. Cheers.

I drool at the thought of watching Komisarek develop under Robinson's tutelage.

I drool at the thought of watching Komisarek develop under Robinson's tutelage. Well, if you want to bring Robinson in to help develop the next big 3...make him the defenceman coach...he always prefered being an assistant than a head coach.
