From Le Journal de Québec. Sorry, no URL.
The Wild bought his contract (2 years). He was simply told the team had no future plan for him.
His future looks bleak. So we got Lapierre for free? Good, it compensates for the loss of Balej.

Hang on! Let's not move ahead too quickly. Lapierre has yet to match Chouinard's career NHL numbers of 89 games, 11-11-22, -8.

I argued long and hard with one our members that Chouiny was a bust because of his between the ears attitude. That person can now send me the Big Mac WITH fries. I'm hungry so pay up or I'm sending Ryan and his friend, Mr. Louiseville, to collect. Yeah, you know who you are! Unless of course you think he still has "potential".........

And we got a second rounder for him two years ago... One of the best trade of the AS era, with the Bulis/Zednik and the "Julien for a fourth" ones.

Réjean Houle's first round draft choices are continuing their trek toward extinction. Only Hossa and Hainsey survive (I hope, since they're still in the Habs system).

I BELIEVE the bet was for a Coke, and I BELIEVE Chouinard had until the end of next season to prove his mettle. Sheesh. Make a food reference to a fat guy, and suddenly he's trying to super-size everything... We'll see where Chouinard ends up. Lots of guys get let go by teams, only to become players elsewhere (cough Dagenais cough)...

From TSN:
Assets - Possesses excellent hands and a goal-scorer's brain. Has good size and appears to be far more comfortable playing wing.
Flaws - Lacks the defensive game and playmaking ability to play center in the NHL. Needs more upper-body strength and must improve his skating ability.
**************************************
Sounds a little like Perreault does it not? It was a shrewd move pawning him off to Philly for a strong pick.
In looking back to see who went in the first round with him that year it is interesting. There are quite a few busts IMO. On the flip side, there are teams that did very well with their picks from late in the first. Simon Gagne taken 22nd, and Scott Gomez last at 27th. Gagne was his Remparts teammate one year, so they had to have seen a lot of him play. Doesn't say much for the scouting staff IMO. Brad Richards 64th. Doh! There were also three pretty good dmen taken right after Eric (Skoula, Kalinin, and Regehr).
Eric had two 100 points seasons, the latter in only 50 games, with Quebec. Lapierre, on an improving team, is just starting to show 1ppg #s. If he can break out next year, it will go a long way to cementing the strength of that trade for us. Maxim is also considered a much more physical player is he not? That's an added bonus. We won't know for a couple of years if there was someone we passed over in 2003 that would have been a better pick (in hind sight of course).

Many of us...knew.
The second round pick Savard pocketed for Chouinard stopped the bleeding.
Next question: Where will Ribeiro be in two years?

The sad part is that when I was at a few Hamilton games, I kept thinking Hossa was starting to look more and more like Chouinard on the ice. Mr. invisible, I felth Chouinard should have a bumper sticker saying "I'd rather be fishing" as he often looked disinterested in playing hockey to me.
I'm not saying Hossa will end up like Chewy, funny both of them have a great wrist shot, but often aren't noticeable when the game gets very physical. Hossa just looked like he'd rather be somewhere else then on the ice.
I would think some team will take a shot on Chouinard, and I'd take Hossa over him any day of the week, no doubt. But getting the 61st overall in a deep draft was an excellent move by Savard and a stupid move by Clarke, who overpaid by a large margin. Lapierre is one of our best prospects in terms of just watching them play. He plays the game like it should be played, intense, hard working, physical, team player, he's got a solid frame on him and some very good wheels.

From a team that resurected Alexandre Daigle, giving up on a talented yet unmotivated player says lots. My thinking is that other teams will consider that too. It's therefore likely that Chouinard is finished.
Who'd have thought?

It's quite possible that Eric still has the potential to extended his professional career in ringette, hopscoth , watermelon seed spitting and yodeling; but as far as his prospects in hockey, well I think he has finally taken that walk off the plank with a cannon tied securely about his ankles.

He's 24 and 3 teams have already given up on him. Perhaps he's just not NHL material....

Sad when your dad is still a better prospect than you. Houle played against his father. Maybe he thought this was thoroughbred racing, where bloodlines are important.

Houle played against his father. Maybe he thought this was thoroughbred racing, where bloodlines are important. Well, in all fairness, CSB agreed that Chouinard was better than Gagné - and both were countless miles ahead of Ryder. Drafting is an art, not a science.

His biggest problem stemmed from the fact that as a star player in the Q he really didn't have to work very hard. Pro hockey really separates the men from the boys in terms of who really wants to work and who doesn't. Chewy has never been described as an exceptionally hard worker and needs to be if he's serious about being an NHLer. The kid has tons of ability but needs to find the will.

When did the definition of nostalgia change? I came to this section of the board expecting to read about the good old days. Geez, Eric's only been gone for 2 -3 years.

Eric's already had his good old days. Makes you wonder, The US has female gymnasts older than 24. He's not over the hill because he's too old. He's over the hill because like the lion in OZ, he has no heart.

How priceless would it be for us to sign the guy and have him score 20 goals on Ribeiro's wing next year in Dagenais' spot... I mean with a playmaker like Mikey all you need is a good set of hands and a shot, Dagenais has proven that oh so well. But screw that, Ribeiro needs two real wingers next season so he can show what he's really about, no more of this crap, or musical chairs every week a new one... Is Perezhogin eligible if the lockout lasts a full year? I personally think either he or Kostitsyn will be ready for prime time by 05-06.
