I guess nobody told Nashville we needed the two points tonight, but to be realistic we didn't deserve to be in the same rink at times. Fiset got his assignment much earlier than we all thought, but what can you do? Theo needed replacing and MT replaced him. Speaking of MT, I wonder how he prepared his troops for this encounter? No too well IMHO. They were lackadaisial as far as I was concerned. They didn't move to the puck with any conviction, they were missing defensive assignments, weren't picking up their checks, yadda, yadda, yadda One of the first indications I saw of the way things were to unfold was when I saw Robidas on that 2-on-1. He was playing it well and gave the shooter to Theo. But when I saw him with one hand on the stick with the other one pointing to wider of the two forwards, it looked as if he was showboating. It almost seemed he was worried about the way he looked on the ice during that odd-man rush? I may be in left field but that's the impression I got. Anyway, these are the games we have to win. We could have been 5 points ahead of the Rangers instead of 3. Heck, we could have been 3 points behind the Devils who also lost today. Gag me with a forklift! Cheers.

Hi Dis. ÊI actually got to watch some of tonight's game, since CBC televised it. ÊWished they hadn't,in hindsight. ÊIt was weird....I thought they were outplaying Nashville most of the time, but whenever they got a good scoring chance, their arms turned to spaghetti, or the puck just wouldn't go to an open man, or Zednik hits the post on a simple put in, or Rivet gets the angle wrong on a wrap around...etc, etc. ÊSo many little things. ÊI didn't catch the first 2 nashville goals, but the 3rd one was a good shot. ÊI'm still wondering where Rivet was on that play. I thought he went in deep during the power play, again, because it was a very uncreative, lackadasical pp and then got caught when the penalty ended and he was still in deep. ÊGood shot by Legwand, though. ÊCan't say the same for the first goal on Fiset. ÊWhat a weak effort. ÊI actually have fewer complaints about the team tonight than on some other nights. ÊThey outshot the Preds by a large margin, but tonight, they just didn't get that great goaltending they've been used to. ÊThat by itself speaks volumes. ÊOne goal against Nashville. ÊThis team needs a couple of natural scorers. ÊAm curious why neither Juneau or Asham played. ÊI still have this bad feeling about the playoffs. ÊWhen you can't put away the dregs of the league, when it means the most to you, you don't deserve to be there. Ê

I blame you guys, what with your "who should we beat in the first round polls" and stuff. You have angered the Hockey Gods. Juneau was suffering from back pains, and Asham went home for his grandmother's funeral.

Basically, both of you are right insomuch as firstly, we have to beat the teams that need beating, and secondly, the hockey gods must have been watching ... I guess we can also see just how much value Juneau and Asham both bring to the team. Guys like that are just as well respected both on the bench and in the dressing room. But still, I couldn't help but notice how uninterested the guys seemed at times during the game. The Preds were one step in ahead of us most of the time. It was only when we were down by 3 did we see any effort from the Habs. Hard to say guys, but I don't think they were in the right frame of mind to start the game whatsoever. Ah well ... Monday night I guess. Cheers.

I won't be opening my big, fat mouth for the rest of the season!!!
We are facing the Panthers on Tuesday, it will be a very tough game, we need to come out strong, FLA won't give us the game and we need to be ready... ;D

That's right Dis. Just a little more effort and some of those 'almosts' would have been buried. Example, if Zednik (not to pick on him) had just followed through hard on Gilmour's centering pass, it's in the net instead of on the post and off Dunham. That makes it 2-1 and it deflates Nashville. Therrien must be an atheist, which would explain the hockey gods deserting us. Or maybe they just can't stand watching that kind of trash. Wonder if we could convert Therrien to agnosticism and cover all the bases that way?
Broken record time..so many of our problems relate to coaching. The system, which discourages puck ownership, the motivation of the team (not starting until the 2nd or 3rd period), the many strange line-up combinations and matching (Matching?, does that occur?) who plays when and how much....these have cost us around 6 points for sure (probably 12 if we ask Marc). Would you support us if you were a god? (too).
I know there are talent shortages too, but as mediocre as we are, we're as good as the other mediocre teams fighting for that last spot. Let's hope MT isn't our Edward Smith, captain of the Titanic.

Actually, 17, the official 'points we have blown' count was at 13 after the Monday game in Carolina. We can't count the point against TB...but should we count the ones last night? it was never a close game(all the games I have counted as blown ones have been close games we have lose because of a ridiculous move by MT or something like that).
Still, 13 points is amazingly high.
By the way, what was the score when Rivet almost scored on that wrap-around?

I was wondering that myself when I was writing the earlier post. It was either 2-0 or 3-0. Can't recall for sure, but what the heck...as most Montreal journalists say, "Why let the facts get in the way of a good story?".
