If you ever wish to read a good hockey book try John Ferguson's "Thunder and Lightning". I just put the book down myself and must say it is a great book.
In depth, he covers his career with the Canadiens. The Summit Series '72 and his horse breeding career.(I never knew horse trading was so financially rewarding. Could make a great second hobby:)
He also discusses his general manager years in New York and Winnipeg. Some mighty strange things goes on in the NHL board rooms behind the playing scenes ie. Twice John nixed a trade because the other GM leaked the trade before the contracts were checked through.
Vic Hatfield and Gil Perrault almost ruined Summit Series '72 for Canada. By being "cancers" in the dressing room. Both were sent packing by Harry Sinden. Fergie goes on to say it is no fluke both never won a cup and the other two they swung over(Dale Tallon, Jocelyn Guevermont), didn't also. He said Bobby Clarke was a great leader in the tournment.
There's much more but I can't type it all out

The Game is still my favourite, but there are a ton of great ones out there. Anything by Dick Irvin is good, Lions in Winter is another good one, For The Defense-Larry Robinson's story, Overtime, Gretzky.......there are too many to list here. If you check out the Coles book store chain a book about the Rocket which has some pretty good pics and whatnot is on sale for $10.00. It was originally $50-60. Authored by Frank Orr and Chris Goyens among others, its a pretty good read as well...

for me it's got to be lloyd percival's 'the hockey handbook', which i devoured over and over in the mid-60s. follows a short review from amazon.com -
Originally published in 1951, and rejected at the time by one NHL coach as “the product of a three-year-old mind,” Lloyd Percival’s The Hockey Handbook went on to become an internationally recognized classic. Russian and European coaches seized on the book as the first authoritative, analytical treatment of hockey fundamentals and based their training regimes on the principles Percival described. The father of Russian hockey, Anatoli Tarasov, wrote to Percival: “Your wonderful book which introduced us to the mysteries of Canadian hockey, I have read like a schoolboy.”<br> Now, nearly half a century later, The Hockey Handbook remains in a class by itself. It is the first book required by players or coaches at all levels of proficiency who are setting out to develop their own or their team’s hockey skills.
Wayne Major, Larry Sadler, and Robert Thom are all experienced amateur hockey coaches who came to appreciate the practical value of Percival’s pioneering work. In revising the text, they drew upon the expertise of a variety of specialists, including, for example, Dr. Tom Sawa, who updated the chapter on training and conditioning, to give The Hockey Handbook a new relevance to modern hockey coaches.

I didn't like Ken Dryden's "The Game". I found it kind of boring. Dryden wrote another ...I'm guessing...but the title was something like "Moving and Shaking". It was a terrible book - I couldn't even finish it.
Lafleur's Overtime was a good one and was Jean Beliveau's. Larry Robinson's was a notch above both though.
Another great hockey book was by Russ Conway. I read it about three years ago. Conway wrote on Alan Eagleson, his rise to power in the NHL and all the illegal activites he did. If anybody is a fan of the NHL he owes it to himself to read Conway's book. I forget the title at the moment

I would like to know that too. I have been reading through every issue of Playboy, Hustler and Penthouse for fourty years and I have yet to find an article about the Habs-Leafs rivalry. Don't know why... ...although I'm not complaining............. ;D

I wish Serge Savard would write a book. They say he is a financial genius. I often wondered how he build the Champlain Chateau so quick. Buying the real estate and all. It is quite remarkable
