I was waxing nostalgic the other day about the great Habs teams of the 1970s. That team had it all--offense, defence, goaltending, everything. They dominated at both ends of the ice, literally expecting to win everytime they took the ice. As I recall every loss was a shock. It was a fantastic time to be a fan. ;D My question is--can it ever be done again? Is there cause to hope the Habs could ever again be dominant--that is, a team which expects to win the Stanley Cup? Or is the best we can hope for is to have a good, competitive team which might have a legitimate shot at a championship? Is true greatness within the realm of possibility? I suspect it will be hard--given the size of the league and economic realities--for any team to become truly dominant. What do the rest of you think? I hope this doesn't get gloomy.

In TODAY'S NHL, to ice a team such as our '76 team, you'd need an 80 - 100 Million Dollar Budget. You won't see that EVER in Montreal.
Sad but that's just the reality of it.
Sigh.
