Our problem is that our best prospects are not in the NHL (many of our supposed best prospects are not even in the AHL). Our best players (producers) on the team are all over 30. They are the best Savard could get without trading away the future, (small and old). Perrault, Berezin, Audette, Gilmour; they've played for a total of 28 other teams between them and their best years are behind them. If we hope to contend against Atlanta in 3 years, Gilmour won't be much help covering Kovalchouk for 24 mins. per game. If winning the Calder Cup is the answer, we have the right guys in Chouinard, Ward and Ribiero, they are lifetime AHL players. And that's the big challenge for AS.When the Juneau/Gilmour/Quintal/Lindsay/Van Allen/Petrov/Audette group will be all in the 33-37 year old age and probably gone, he will have to find guys who will take some pressure off the Hainsey, Komi, Perezhogin, Hossa, Plekanec, Milroy group.Obviously, the Theodore, Zednik, Bulis, Markov, Koivu group will still be here. But we will need some quality players to help them out. That's why we had the big argument last week.Should AS have gone for young, unproven NHL talent that would have cost little in terms of $$ and players instead of the veterans he brought in who also cost not much in $$ and players? sure, now everyone would say the vets have helped us out more than kids would have had... but who knows and we will see what will happen in 2-3 years from now.

We are coming back to that old TANK now for the future question. I really don't think that a bunch of 30 somethings who get us to the first round of the playoffs are as important as building with low draft choices, youth, speed, and size in the future. My #1 goal is to see tha cup on the back of a fire truck rolling down St. Catherine St. It won't happen with a bunch of small old castoffs from other teams. I'm not saying THROW GAMES but I am saying BUILD for the future. 8)
