I've seen a lot of posts on other boards saying it's time to pack it in, Savard should have done this and that, blah blah blah.
Like I said yesterday, don't worry about NY. Those fools will kill themselves. If we play good hockey these last 3 weeks, we're in, no problem. I worry more about Buffalo than I do NY.
We've already discussed the problems with Bure, and Poti is no angel himself. He shows nothing defensively, hasn't shown a willingness to play physical, and has no offence this year. Edmonton wouldn't give up a kid loaded with talent if they didn't think he was a head case.
Remember NY had to give up York, their most consistent forward this year.
And just what did everyone want AS to do? Who are we giving up to get anything back? AS did fine with Lindsay and Fiset, no one should have been thinking any higher than that.
Quit your whining and whoa is me crap, we don't have a NY payroll, end of story. This playoff spot is still ours until we lose it through our own faults.

Sather just destroyed what he did last night.Tom Poti is so overated, it's amazing.OK, the kid does have great skills and can skate, but he can't play defence, doesn't hit and is not a confident guy...York was their best forward this year, can skate like the wing(man, the Oilers just keep getting faster and faster), is great defensively, is still very young and should be a fan favorite there for years to come.
But Poti won't improve the Rangers all that much. The Rangers will probably use him on their 2nd PP unit with bums like Nedved and Rucinsky...make no mistake about it, Leetch and Malakhov will still be on the points of their 1st PP unit.
Essentially, the Rangers just got softer and even more enigmatic!

I'm with you, Ryan. If NYR wins this race it'll be because we let them. Just wait a week until Bure and Poti have had enough with Fleury's antics. We'll see how high the NYR's team morale will be then.

I don't even know if their team morale is high now.I mean how could you not like a guy like Mike York? he probably brought a ton of energy and youthful spunk to a boring veteran team... We can beat these bums out for this playoff spot.

One more point...
The NHL for some reason has the trade deadline about 2 weeks too late in the season. There is very little time for new players to settle in and contribute to their new team.
Deadline deals more benefit teams that want to go far in the playoffs, not teams on the bubble just struggling to make it.
Poti and Bure may have no impact...the immediate impact will be losing York from the line-up.

I agree, it would also force teams on the bubble (Calgary, Pittsburgh, etc) to make deals earlier and maybe they would take on some salary and go for a playoff run instead of unloading 2 weeks later.

Back in January or February we were talking about this very thing on my board. We all agree the trade deadline is much too late in the season for new players to contribute to the team and build some chemistry with the rest of the team. IMO, the Trade Deadline should be near the end of January or at the very latest the beginning of February. That way the new players could begin to fit in and contribute going into the stretch and really help getting a good seed setting in the playoffs.
