Playoff implications...and this is the effort...
After going down 1-0, one was naive enough to think the Habs would rev up the engine. But nothing (actually worse in the 2nd period)...Why (old and new theories welcome)??
1) D-corps cannot move the puck in the face of determined forecheck. -- Green counseling the troops (in Russian, for comedy sake) to throw the puck up the boards. After all, what does it matter if we get outshot 50-10 the rest of the season...
2) Therrien inspires no confidence in times of crisis (like down 1-0 in an absolutely crucial game). I know numerous good coach lacked credentials as a player, but could a team with a weak spine be emboldened by someone who was there and has a battle story shining in his eyes during hard moments. 3) Forwards with no grit to adapt to poor service from our mediocre d-corps. Part of the getting outshot (by a ludicrous margin) story is that we lose 75% of the physical confrontations.
4) Savard has brought together too many non-combative types that do not stand up for each other when the going gets tough.
I think #4 is usually less the issue than #1,#2, #3.
It is, as I thought, getting ugly. Perhaps two periods late for the Habs to show some heart. Sad, sad, sad...Maybe it's time to put Gino out to pasture since he doesn't fight anyway. Call up Belanger...
Oh well, my wife wonders why I look like our dog died but I believe we'll take the Leafs tomorrow.

The answer is 1, 2, 3 and 4 Sabres got lucky in the first, but still, we didn't fight. The team that almost made the playoffs 2 years ago would have tried anything to stage a comeback. We are not playing well since the OG. I'm wondering if Therrien is not being outcoached every game now... Or is it Green ? Did every other team figured out a way to make us look ridiculous in our zone... are we going to do something about it ? Asham and Kilger have to put on more minutes than Odjick who is apparently injured and obvsiously completely ineffective at the moment. Berezin seems to be back from the dead but a post and a good save from Biron made the difference... Repeat after me. get well soon Saku and Donald...

Tough to peg this one a particular individual as not many guy showed up for the game, aside from Theodore, Dackell and Juneau. Markov looked absolutely terrible tonight. I usually like him but tonight was a tough game, he was lost in his own end, never seemd to know where to go and what to do. I doubt he will be dressed tomorrow.
To give credit where credit is due, Buffalo played a perfect game, forchecked us to death in our zone and kept our players on the perimeter in their zone. They had a game plan tailor made to beat us and executed it to perfection.

Pathetic, brutal, brittle and just plain awful.
Shades of the team we had last year.
I wish Therrien would blow a fuse for once. All he does is sit behind the bench and look stunned.
The only guy busting his ass out there and trying to get us back in the game in the 3rd was Bouillon.
I don't think I(and the whole fanbase) can stomach a game like this tomorrow.

Yeah, Doc is right. The Sabres were perfect tonight. They were flawless. They had a perfect game plan to beat us.
They have more talent than us.That is obvious, we would all love to have anyone of those young players on that 2nd line.I'll take their forwards anyday over ours.

Why?
1) coaching not good enough.
2) intensity and self motivation of players not good enough.
3) and last, and most important, talent not good enough.
I only watched the first period, but Theo sure looked like he was fighting the puck tonight. Is it just me or is Theo not playing up to the level he was at before the break? He's not bad, but he's not consistently terrific either. Which is not good news 'cause with this team he's gonna have to steal a few for the Habs to have any hope of making the playoffs.

start garon against the leafs.
tack up some drywall in the locker-room and have therrien plow his fist through like it he means it, in front of the team. the iguana-basking-in-the-sun routine ain't getting it done. have him sucker-punch odjick if that's what it takes.
god, what a bloodless, lifeless bunch of pansies. these guys are fighting for a playoff spot? gimme a break.
there, i feel better.

I would give Garon a start on the road, against a team like Nashvile or Florida or TB.
