Weird story and potentially a HUGE story.
The Pens and the NHL contend Kasparaitis is NOT eligible for UFA after this year because, last summer, and arbitrator gave him a 2 year deal. While Kaspar's agent(a certain Mark Gandler) says Kaspar is a free agent because he has been in the league 10 years and is making less than the league average.
Obviously, if Kasparaitis is not eligible to become a UFA, he won't be going anywhere. That could really make the d-man market a seller's market.Guys like Rivet and Souray(if he ever returns!!) could see their values increase dramatically.
Interesting...

Yup, he is a ufa come summertime (when the weather is fine...) Darius the Menace is my #1 pick for who we set our sights on before the 19th deadline; then lock him up for 3-5 years. he has a better than average skill level and will clear ANYONE from in front of the net and is a great open ice hitter. Maybe, at 5'11 (220 lbs.) he could run a few tutorial sessions on how to play physically. Last time I checked his class would be standing room only (all D men in the front row please for roll playing) p.s. think back to how he pestered and kept Mario at bay in the '93 quarterfinals. He was the predominate reason we did not have to go through the '91 / '92 Champion Penguins to get to the Finals to whup Los Angeles. As a resilt of the 10 year / less than average rule he is significantly younger than the typical ufa - hence he has more miles left on him. Pair him up with Breezer and Patrice can play his risky offensive D with much less likelyhood of impending disaster.

JD, the Pens and NHL are saying he is NOT a UFA because the arbitrator awarded him a 2 year deal but he signed a 1 year deal instead. This could take sometime to solve. IF he is allowed to become a UFA, expect teams to go after him like there is no tomorrow.

Huh, Jerry, the guy has a point.
This thread was supposed to be about whether or not Kasparaitis will be a UFA or not this summer, not about how cool it would be to have Kaspar next season...
If you want to suggest that Kaspar would be a solid addition, start your own thread on that topic, don't antagonise Marc for nothing. Especially since wanting Kaspar as a UFA goes completely against the logic that he might not be a UFA.
And BTW - everyone would like Kaspar, but about half the league wants him and then other half can't afford him. Don't expect to see him in the CH anytime soon !
5 minute penalty for the 3rd man in. HA

I hope he isn't declared a free agent. He took advantage of the system and signed a cheap contract this year. That's not how the system was meant to be used
