I hadn't heard of any Igor-Ulanov-hates-Ron-Lowe scenarios. I guess either Ulanov was out-played for a job or just doesn't have it any longer.
Just the same he'd probably come cheap; 6th/7th rounder. We wouldn't be able to use his undisciplined play, but we might be able to benefit from his heart. He played his best when given an assignment like Lindros or Ya$hin.
But one thing keeps nagging at me; if he's not good enough for the Rangers, how would be be good enough for us? If he did get to Montreal something tells me he's be a temporary addition at best. Just the same, Ulanov was a pretty well liked player when he was in Montreal. Cheers la!

Hey Dis,
I agree, for a low draft pick. To add the fear of God to forwards who may get hip checked into the 3rd row. I would not use him every night, but he would be good to throw in every once and a while as a 5th or 6th d-man. It never hurts to add depth to the defensive corps. I remember during the playoffs in 1998 he hit Matt Barnaby so hard he did not know what city he was in. Also, during the Pittsburgh series Jaromir Jagr was looking over his should for 55 all the time.
Just my thoughts

personally, i think of igor ulanov and anders eriksson as a matched set. let the leafs pick igor up, and let the nostalgia ride. 7 clubs in 10 years tells me all i need to know

It's hard to say because I haven't watched him lately, and he isn't a young fast long term player I like, but he does hit and we need a hitter until Komisarek comes up.

I wouldn't touch him. He couldn't play defensively before and he would just be taking playing time away from a Markov.

Pass on this, the memories of him are more sparkling than the reality.

With 34 hits in 39 games, Igor doesn't seem to be the hitting machine he used to be and since that side of him was always his main perk, he becomes way less valuable. We must remeber that Ulanov brings a number of stupid penalties. An interesting 6th dmen, but for 2mil? No thanks. At 650K to 1mil the guy would find a job anywhere.
There's another player that can thank the CBA for having no place to play in the NHL.
