In terms of a body coming back that'll suit up immediately, what do you think he could fetch?
I believe that in light of his stellar performance last night, and a few repeats in the like, Mr Hackett would likely fetch a substantial player from those in the need of a 1st rate goaltender. Nothing less than a 2nd-3rd liner.
Opinions?
BTW, you're doing a tremendous job here CO & company! I may not be posting but I'm here daily. 8)

It's tough to predict the kind of asset we would get in return.I guess it depends on how many teams want him and how well he plays. There has to be a demand for Hackett.

One of the guys over on the Rivals board (CF I think...) said that Reichel and a 3rd would be a fair offer for Hackett, Souray and Gilmour and most of the Leafs fans over there seem to be talking along the same order. While I'd like Reichel they'd get Dougie over my dead body right now (well - maybe for Sundin (- but I'd say that that's what Quinn's offering starting out (Quinn being the only major buyer in the league right now). We have to realize that there's a glut of adequate goalies on the market (Sheilds, Tugnutt etc) who probably cost less that Jeff. Savard should have phoned Quinn sometime this a.m. with an offer. Something horrendously over priced (i.e. Sundin, Roberts - some guy that would kill them and every Leafs fan to lose). Quinn's going to try and turn it around on AS with double talk about how the market is filled with second string goalies but I'd put even money that Quinn will be really deprete after seeing Schwab (can we call him 'Red Light' Schwab and get away with it around here?). AS should sit back, let him make one trade if he feels he can ge ta better offer because none of the guys are going to hold that teams shaky D together. Then let him crawl back. The Leafs are in deep trouble right now. Quinn is optimistic about Joseph return, but he broke his glove thumb and that's one of those injuries that take a long time to heal. Six weeks is the minimum before Cujo should be on the ice again, seven weeks before he faces any hard shots, and maybe the eigth week he can do a start or two (remember Hackett when he came back off his thumb injury - might have been the other hand but man oh man did he stink). Everyone's worrying about helping the Leafs, but I think we have a shot here at killing them outright with their own sword. Think about this. AS offers Quinn something no one in their right mind would accept, and Quinn, being of somewhat sound mind says no. Schwab falls flat on his face and Centomo puts in a good showing, but for God's sakes he started in the ECHL this year. Quinn panics and calls AS. AS doesn't budge. Quinn makes a deal for whomever (second string goalie) sending away a middle round pick or a low end prospect. The backup goalie performs well, but under the weak defensive system of the Leafs he just can't handle himself. Repeat as often as Quinn is stupid enough to do so, AS not budging every time. Goalies flying left and right. Bad news for Cujo as his thumb injury is worse than expected. The Leafs suddenly find themselves chasing the Montreal Canadiens for the last playoff spot. Hakcett puts on show stopper performance, and Theo is always one upping him. Quinn goes bald. He finally breaks down and calls AS again, to find a more reasonable (but still super high) offer. Graciously Quinn accepts. Canadiens steal a few good goal scorers for Hackett and maybe a defenceman for Traverse, Hackett and Odjick. As he leaves Savard promises Hakcett a nice big contract if he throws a few games. Toronto falls apart. Montreal wins the Stanley Cup. All is right with the world again (-: Later

Agree totally, TNG. Hackett's value, from a 4th round pick or so, has escalated to a 2nd round pick after the Chicago game. And the closer we get to the trade deadline, the more desparate both Quinn and other GM's get about their playoff goaltending, the higher goes Jeff's value. I'm looking for big time desperation, and that means patience. It's a gamble, because Quinn might go for an alternate solution, which would be unsatisfactory in the long run, and we might end up holding onto Hackett until the summer, but I think it's a worthwhile gamble. We may very well strike it rich...1st rounder or quality prospect. I'm getting tired of the 'bodies' we've picked up in the past. We have plenty of bodies. Our return better be a quality, young 2nd liner or a pick. I'm willing to let the fuse get really, really close to the plastique. Is Andre?

Rucinsky was his friend and on top of that,he is just another soft player who is on the decline. And he is a coward, when things go wrong,he goes back to the Czech Republic instead of showing character.

I think the Leafs are a bad trading partner. Nobody from their farm is a an upgrade over our own prospect. They're are excited about Boyes, but IMO, he's a a Ribeiro clone who's far from having achieved the number Ribs did. Poni? 4th round pick who's got as much chance of turning into a power forward as Ward has. Coliacvoco? As if we needed more dmen prospects...
From their roster they could offer the usual Reichel and Hoglund. But where would Reichel fit? Certainly won't replace Gilmour who seems to be the leader of this team, doesn't provide the offense Perreault does and isn't as good a checking center as Juneau. Hoglund? Noglund.
Either they send a pick our way, like a 3rd which would be really low, almost like a 4th.
And they'd end up with a goalie that we know can win game on his own.
I am not saying the Leafs don't have good players or good prospects but they don't have what we'd need. Maybe puting together a 3 way could be beneficial.

I also think a 3 way is a possibility....
