I can't see this happening, Guerin says that he is happy in Boston plus Montreal won't be able to outbid the Rangers or Flyers. I think Montreal should go get Selanne at the trade deadline. With Selane and Koivu playing together I think Teemu would be really happy throw in an Audette or Zednick and that could be a great #1 line!
Here's a question for you guys, looking at the upcoming trade deadline and the upcoming offseason who would be #1 on your wishlist?

Pednault is patently insane.
He's trying to sound good by telling the public what it wants to hear, not what's realistic. Pednault has some decent contacts and can come up with some nice tid-bits, but when he tries to extrapolate to big-time rumours he's out of his league.
Ideally, I'd like Savard to make a run at Selanne - but I doubt that they'll have a chance, and beyond him I can't see anyone all that interested in MTL.
Belfour, Dafoe and Cujo don't fill needs (duh!) Amonte and Guerin are probably looking at Rangers or some big-money team - or a contender. Holik wants to be on a winner. Savage and Rucinsky aren't likely to want to come back.
The guys I want to see on this team at camp are guys like Hainsey, Asham, Ward and Hossa. Short-cuts and a quick-fix aren't going to help at this point.

I think this will be a pretty quite off season for us. I think the only big name free agent we have any realistic shot at would be Selanne, and even then we may be over estimating the "Saku factor." I mean, they play great together in international tournaments and everything, but does anyone know if they actually like each other? Mind you, if ever there was a city that would remind Teamu of Finland, with would be Montreal, no? Similar climate, European culture, and heck, since Selanne really likes to drive fast (really fast), he would be right at home on the Decarie Expressway!
Other than him though, I can't see anybody else really wanting to come here. Money wise, every other team can match us (and as we saw last year even home grown talent sometimes takes less to go elsewhere) and we are obviously not a contender, so we aren't going to lure them here with that.
How about Randy Mackay though? A Montreal boy (a friend of mine is a buddy of his, and I'm thinking "BadCompany scores free tickets!"), big, tough, good veteran leadership, injury-prone (a necessity for a Montreal player), could be had cheap - I think he would be a great replacement for either Van Allen or Gilmour. Well, not 1st line Gilmour, but locker-room Gilmour. As a 4th liner, I think Mackay would be great.
Barring that though, we will have both Koivu and Audette coming back, and that's like adding two top-six forward free agents in and of itself. So we shouldn't have to worry too much about it.

McKay, hmm, me like idea :-)
McKay is the caliber of guy we should be hoping for, IMO. A forward with size, leadership, from MTL, and a minimum of scoring touch, would be a really nice fit for us.
I still hope André gives Teemu a call though. You never know.

You think Savard will be quite this off season? Maybe, but he made some big pitches for star players last off season ie. Kovalchuk.
He needs something to build around

I was talking with my buddies about a UFA this summer and everyone has Guerin as their #1 priority.Followed by Amonte and Selanne. The problem with going after a Guerin or a Amonte, not only do we have to outbid their own teams, but we have to outbid other teams who have loads of $$ to spend.Selanne seems like the more realistic acquisition, but he is another 'soft' player and quite frankly,we don't need another one unless we deal 2 or 3 of them. But,definitely Billy Guerin is number 1 on my list.Him with Koivu and Zednik could be deadly

He needs something to build around I agree,AS needs to make a move that will put his 'stamp' on the team. All he has done now is replace mediocre, overated players with slightly better players who are going to be gone 1-2-3 years from now(aside from Bulis and Zednik).
