Shane, where did you read about this? I don't doubt what you are saying, but it surprises me. If it's on the Internet, would you give me the URL so I can read it? Thanks.

HA, thank you for the URL to the article. I really appreciate it. Being out of work and at home, I've seen all the Hockey games. The men's from Group A through Group D, and all the women's games. I have been glued to the TV with all the hockey because who know's when I will get this much hockey again, so I haven't been reading anything. All I've been able to do for the past 11 days is keep my board up, build my new board and watch Hockey. The rest of the world could have disappeared an I would have never known it.

If anybody saw Don Cherry's rant it was a tad overboard but I have to agree if they want to go home I say let them. The Russians are trying to take advantage of an IOC that is badly trying to save some sort of face. The circumstances involving their cross country skier is totally different than what happened in the figure skating. How can they support an athlete that was taking drugs and say they are being singled out.Should they pull their athletes and I doubt they will they will never get the support of the Russian NHLers again. HFTO Maybe I am wrong, but my understanding of the skiing incident wasn't so much that she had been caught doping up on hemaglobin - though they obviously fell back on the defence of their athlete - but that they weren't informed that she wasn't allowed to compete until the very last minute. They said that if they had of been informed she was ineligible right away, they could have used one of their alternates (which every team has) and still maybe come out with a medal. But since they only found out right before the race they had nobody prepared and couldn't enter in a team. If this is the case then I think they would have a legitimate beef. I would think it would sort of be like disqualifying Canada because, say Theoren Fleury fails a drug test, but the IOC never told Canada and thus they weren't given the chance to replace him. I am not saying the Russians should pick up their ball and go home, but from my understanding of the situation they do have a good point and we can't really use the Russian skier as an example of whiny Russianess. But I could be wrong.

The protest about Russia pulling out of the Olympics is premature just like Dennis Rodman's premature pulling out of Madonna. Neither is worth mentioning. Canada vs. U.S.A. I feel like I can't lose whichever team wins. I don't buy all the complaining about Americans feeling superior. They are superior. No, not the ignorant average guy who lives in Wisconsin and doesn't know anything about his neighbors to the North (actually he doesn't know all that much about his own country). I'm talking about the country that leads the world in nearly every category, Nobel prizes, Olympic medals, Pulitzer, economics, military, patents etc..... If Canadians are going to be honest, they have to admit a grudging admiration with a slight twinge of jealousy at the success Americans have. Forget the rhetoric about crime, drugs, driveby shootings, slow speed chases, guns, lawlessness........it's sadly all true. But the tremendous success and achievement is something laid back Canadians need to try to emulate if they want to win. Watch the battle between Corel and Microsoft. Who will be the fair refined gentleman and who will be the cut throat winner. Each country has their own strengths and advantages. Vive le difference. I'm looking forward to the hockey battle. Canada's superior players and USA's superior attitude.
