If Canada wins they meet the Russians, if Canada loses they meet Finland.
What do you think that the Czechs will do?
I bet the Czech will put up a token and really good "looking" struggle, but I have this gut feeling we are going to win. And it ain't going to be Quinns remarkable system.
In two hours we will see.

After one period me thinks you're a bit too suspicious... or paranoid... or something.
The guys had a strong first period playing the game they HAVE to play if they expect to win gold. Forecheck, grind, hit, shoot lots and beat the living snot out of that Hasek (yes - I'm still bitter)
The goal was just a bad change. No ones fault (for once). Let's hope it doesn't shake them.

I agree with everything you said TNG but one. The czech goal. Erica Lindros let his man Havlat go. I say bench the twit now. Man I hate him. I am much more impressed with the effort shown so far tonight. My early nomination for player of the game is Owen Nolan. He is trying to lead by example. Watching him makes me want to hit someone. Now where did I put Big D...

I thought that he was coming on from a change and just out of position, I could be wrong - I'm busy programming my assignment for tomorrow (fun, fun, fun). It's actually kind of annoying because I haven't gotten a whole lot of work done....
It looked like they were starting to fall apart there at the start of the second, but they pulled up thier socks fast. Boy oh boy when they start hitting and throwing their weight around and doing all the "right" things that they haven't tried yet they look real good.
Nolan said something during the second intermission that gives me hope. "We had a little meeting and we've deicded to play the type of game we can play". Brilliant. Tell that Pat Quinn to shut up and play our game instead of theirs.
Let's hope the 3rd is as good as the first two.

There was a second gunman. They are keeping alien spacecraft in Area 52. And I am suffering from the "Ruzinsky Syndrom". When I heard that Russia lost to Finland, I started to look for ghosts in the closet and checking for aliens in the basement, but I am happy to report that all is normal in my mind. Almost. It was a pretty good game by our boys. Still not to the level of the US/Russia game, but much better then the last two. If they they take it up another notch, I am going to like their chances. Still, Lindros should be sent top the outhouse to think a bit. Nediermier is as good as I thought he was, possibly the best all around defenceman in the league (until Hainsey develops). As for my favorite pet subject, Rosie showed the Hab's fans how he can play......for the Czechs. As for this thread.....................I'm wrong.............this time.

Playing Finland was probably the worst thing that could happen to Canada.
Finland has nothing to lose.. they are the underdogs big time and came off a tremendous win against Russia.
Canada would have been more secure by playing a crappy team like Belarus.. but that won't happen. So they'll have to live with it..

CO, Pronger plays much better in the NHL than he seems to be doing at the Olympics. Perhaps the smaller rink benefits his rangy frame. HA is right (did I really just say that? ()) in that Neidermayer has looked like Canada's best d-man. Late in the 3rd, he rode Dopita into the boards and held him there, something no one else on the team seemed able to do. He must be much stronger than he appears. Great skater of course, so the big ice favours him.
The biggest disappointment for me has been Lindros. While I dislike him for reasons too many to detail here, I'm still Canadian (had to pass a test for that, too, amazingly enough) and I'd love to see him hit, skate and fire a puck through Hasek's midsection. He looked hurt late in the game, so maybe he's fighting something. Given what he's produced so far, if he is indeed hurting, I'd dress someone else.
Good game today. Even if they'd lost, I'd have been happy with it.

Pronger stunk...again. Anyone else think that this guy is immensely over-rated? CO Canada will win gold....you'll see. Yes!! ME!!! Leafs fans have been saying for a year now they would like Pronger. Whenever I see them post that I jump in and let them know what a whining egotistical cry baby Pronger is when he doesn't get his way, even if his way is wrong. Add to that, I think Pronger is overrated and I tell them I don't ever want him on the Leafs. The headaches from having him wouldn't be worth it. Most Leafs fans don't see as much as Pronger as I do. If they did, I doubt they would still want him. Some of the Leafs fans on my board are now expressing how overrated he is.

They played in the old Russian organization. That means they are Russian tough. They win when you least expect them too. I would rather Canada play Finland than Russia. I think Russia would be harder for them to beat than Finland. If they play against Finland like they played the Czech Republic during Period 1 and 2 today, I think they stand a good chance of beating them. Finland won the Bronze in 1998. As for the Dopita goal, Pronger turned over the puck and that directly led to Dopita's goal. Did any of you see Wayne's interview after the game about Hamrlik's dirty hit on Fleury. I don't like Fleury, never have, but I don't condone dirty hits even on players I don't like. I agree with what Wayne said about if it had been a Canadian Player to make that dirty hit it would be a big story. I always liked Roman but after what I saw him do today I may reconsider.

That was just a terrific hockey game.Regardless of who you were cheering for.Great pace, great goaltending and superstars living up to their name. What a game by Mario.Only a handful of players in the world can score a goal against Hasek from that angle after picking up the puck with a terrific display of agile hands.Mario was 'da bomb last night.Just wait until he and Kariya play another game together ;D
Also,Jagr was tremendous.Could he have caught the Rucinsky virus? 'who cares about the NHL,I will only play well for my country?'
Overall,a great game by Canada. They continue to gain momentum and look more and more like a team, from, well,Canada! That was Canadian hockey last night IMO.And we don't get to face Russia or the US now.We face the Finns who are tough but can be stopped rather easily if we play like we did last night.

Pam,are you predicting a Belarus win over Sweden? that would solve a host of problems ;D I also have no problem with playing the Finns. This is not a better team than in 1998,I mean they lost their best player and at his position, they are really week(speaking of which, why didn't they put Mikko Koivu or Tuomo Ruutu on this team? they are better than Juha Lind or Aanti Aalto). Hurme is a very good goalie, their defence is pretty solid, but after Selanne and Kapanen, they are paper thin up front. Meanwhile,Russia is NOT the team I want to face at this time.Maybe if we win in convincing fashion against the Finns, yes, but not now.Russia,USA and Sweden are team's I want to face after playing 2-3 good games in arrow and having alot of momentum. As for the Pronger debate,MacInnis was the one who misplayed the puck on the Dopita goal.I think Pronger is getting better as the tourney has gone on.He has been playing better defensively and has actually attempted a long pass!! Also,Niedermayer has played great hockey IMO.I hope Hainsey can develop into a player like him.

I think Pronger's big problem is the big ice. Like him or not, he's a brilliant passer, but the international surfaces seem to be giving him fits.
As for Al - he's having problems five on five, but damn does he ever look dangerous on the point for the power play. If one of those shots could ever get through someone could get really badly hurt.
Just my 2.5 cents

On Dopita's goal, Pronger started off the play with a rather weak pass across ice toward the right winger. It was intercepted and eventually led to the shot from the point which, unfortunately for MacInnis, bounced off his skate and right to Dopita. Dopita couldn't have asked for a better pass and it certainly put Brodeur way out of position. So, an initial bad play and some bad luck, results in a goal. Pronger shouldn't let it worry him. Learn from it, put more mustard on the same pass and it's a break out for Canada. I like the way this team is progressing. They didn't let that goal deflate them, but came back hard later in the game. Fleury looks a little slow, non?, but lots of heart in that guy.
