Alexandre Svitov has been assigned to the Bulldogs (TB doesn't have an AHL affiliate).
Big, young, tough, talented, playing in our back yard and kinda burried in an insane depth at center in TB...
mmmmmm....

as long as it doesn't cost us one of the Big 3 on defence...

Id take him any day of the week, but I think the main thing is this: what's the price to pay? I think the answer might be defense i.e. Komisarek or Hainsey. Are we really willing to give them up? But I'd definetly try to propose something for Svitov because he is the type of center we lack. Although he doesn't have huge offensive potential, hes kind of like Bobby Holik, he's very physical and nasty. He's very responsible defensively, in fact he's probably a future selke candidate. He'd be our 2nd or 3rd line center in no time.
EDIT: Remember the Ruslan Fedotenko for the 4th overall pick(Pitkanen).... Maybe it wouldnt take that much to get Svitov lol, heck we could throw in Audette for Alexeev ;D.

If Gainey would be interested in picking up a chunk of Breezer's salary something could be worked out. If not, than Hainsey could seal it fer sure. Hainsey/Svitov ? I'd be really really tempted...

GOING INTO CAMP: Svitov should again stick with the Lightning in 2003-04 and play on the third or fourth line. ASSETS: Has great size and two-way potential. Can play the role of instigator to perfection. Possesses above-average offensive upside.
FLAWS: May not have the offensive creativity to play a top-six role at center in the NHL. Must cut down on the number of bad penalties he takes. CAREER POTENTIAL: Two-way center.
Alexander Svitov Date of birth: Nov, 3 1982, Place of birth: Omsk, USSR (RUS) HT: 6-3 WT: 198 Shoots/Catches: L Salary: $1,130,000 NHL Seasons: 1 Drafted by Tampa Bay in 2001 (1/3).

I think Svitov has the potential to be more than that. TB confined him in a checker role with some pluggers because they already have 2 superstars as #1 and #2 centers. But given the icetime and the talented wingers (didn't he play with Zhogin?) the guy could boom... Kats - Svitov - Zhogin The red line ?

Svitov and Somervuori in Hamilton! Those 2 are really going to help the Bulldogs! Of course, they'll be the first ones recalled by the Bolts, but at least they're not giving us junk.

I'd love a line like that because it would be an awesome display of real offensive skill combined with a nasty big center. But I'd like a real answer from anyone, would Tampa Bay be willing to part ways with Svitov? They weren't with Lecavalier... Anyway, like I said previously, I'd love to see the Habs get their hands on Svitov, it would much better then the Primeau idea.

Hainsey for Svitov?
Done.
I get the feeling we will all be calling Hainsey a bust at this time next year. Svitov sounds like a stud.

I would gladly send either of Rivet or Brisebois (with half salary paid) to them for Svitov.
what about Garon ? I would trade Garon for Svitov, but not for Primeau.
Khabibulin is a UFA this year and is making $6 million. They may be able to deal him to Colorado and get some good young players (Skoula, Tanguay). They would end up being a stronegr team on D and O because of it.
But I don't know if they want a Grahame / Garon duo leading them in the playoffs.

Well, after Prince Vinny and Richards TB has Martin Cibak and Tim Taylor down the middle. Seems like they are not that deep to me right now. Also, did Svitov stink the joint up in camp to not beat out the last 2 ? what's the deal? anyone know? on a sidenote, can you imagine how good they would be looking right now if they would have picked Chistov(imagine him with Vinny ) instead of Svitov in that 01 draft.. I don't recall Svitov playing on a line with Zhogin at the WJC during the 01-02 holidays(that WJC Zhogin was playing with the injured knee and was knocked out of action early in it). Hainsey for Svitov is tempting for sure. If it's Markov or Komisarek? sorry Mr Feaster but no..

I'd like to see how Theodore performs before trading Garon, he's a very talented goaltender and I don't know if Garon for Svitov straight up is worth it. We get a top notch young player, but on the other hand, we might give a goalie who would be a superstar. If he lives up to the hype, Garon could be worth much more then Svitov.

Those 3 were guaranteed to have spot #1 to 3. If you don't consider that deep, then really how do you feel about our MickeyMouse center line ? It seems that Cimak indeed beat Svitov out of a job but... Feaster also has been looking for a top notch dmen and what do you know, he sends a big tough talented center right in the backyard of a team that is not only in dire need of that kind of player but who arguably has some of the best dmen prospects in the league and are experiencing some kind of a log jam there... Coincidence.... ?

I wonder if they'd take a veteran or prefer a youngster like Hainsey. They're almost contenders so I'd expect someone who can log minutes and has experience. Rivet and Brisebois are the first to come in mind. With an already great group of forwards and an all-star goalie, all they lack is an experienced blue liner, I doubt someone like Hainsey or Komisarek could help them attain their objectives. Rivet+2nd rounder maybe? thats a bit low but considering they praticaly gave Pitkanen, I wouldnt be surpised one bit if it happened. The only real problem is that we would keep a problem(brisebois).

Offensive stud? Defensive stud is more like it and isn't Garon 25? I'd like to see how Garon performs first, he might be a great revelation, but I have to admit that 10(?) games isnt enough to judge a goaltender. We'll have a better idea in the coming year.

Again, don't be fooled by the forecaster 's outlook. Svitov has been put in a defensive spot in TB which doesn't mean he doesn't have the skills to be a top 2 center. On our roster/farm, he would instantly be our best offensive prospect.

It seems that Cimak indeed beat Svitov out of a job but... That's the thing... Who the heck is Martin Cibak and how does the 3rd overall pick in a very good draft not win a battle for a job with him? If Svitov is that good, why couldn't he win that battle? whats the deal? Motivation? effort? character? If a top 3 overall Habs pick in his 2nd year of pro hockey would get beat out of a job on our team by a guy like Cibak, people here would be going nuts calling that pick a bust ! ;D Here's the reaction from some of the TB fans(well, it's really one fan's thoughts on Svi/Cib..) over at HF.. www.hfboards.com/showthread.php?threadid=17762

Actually he's been used as a two way forward with pretty much every team he's played with. He was a PK killer in Russia and during the WJC he was also used in defensive situations. On offense he seems lost sometimes and doesnt capitalize on the chances he gets even though he has unquestionnable talent. He's got some moves but doesn't show them nearly enough. When's all said and done, he'd still be our number 2 or 3 center, he can physically go against anyone in this league and he's a good two way forward.

The problem I have with Svitov is the 2001 (IIRC) WJC and his spitting incident against Canada. I believe it was Sutherby that went ape after Svitov apparently spit at him.
I can probably say I would never like this guy off the ice, but I'd be willing to forgive that if he is a pain in the butt to play against on the ice.
If it was Hainsey for Svitov straight up I probably do it just because we've still got some good depth at defence (prospects). Svitov has better size than any of our forward prospects and could mesh well with Kats or Zhogin.

Svitov is know for being a real hard-nose player out there. He's not afraid to go after anyone and has some pretty good skills to boot. It would take a pretty good package to pry him loose and I doubt Tampa Bay is ready to give up on him quite yet.
Meanwhile, Hamilton looks to be pretty stacked at centre this year with Gratton, Plekanec, Higgins and Svitov.

You guys are SOOOOO quick to trade Hainsey. Look, most defenseman take five years to develop and we have THREE youngsters that are just getting started. Do you guys remember what Markov did in his first year? He was where Hainsey is now. Wait another couple of years and watch Hainsey's value go through the roof rather then giving up on him now. Geeeez...Hab fans are so impatient......

Pretty much my thoughts. I'm in no rush to see Hainsey traded, but Svitov isn't chopped liver. Youth for youth trades can be good. I don't see a lot of people regretting Zubrus for Zednik... even if the kid you deal develops, if the guy you get becomes a roughly even player, then both teams can win the deal since they've filled needs. I'd really rather keep Hainsey, but if AS and the pro scouts think Svitov can be a strong 2nd/3d line center (and that Hainsey isn't a slam-dunk #1 defenseman), I'm all for it. A #2 line of, say, Bulis, Svitov and Ward, for the next 8 years, would have a nice ring to it.

Svitov is a guy I'd love to obtain, but I'd like to know a bit more about how he's playing lately before making a move for him. He didn't impress me at all last season the few times I saw him, I prefered Alexeev much more (but he's a big young right wing, not the center of the future we need). I think Svitov has #2 center written all over him, and with his size and defensive game he could be an absolutely perfect fit for our team. Personally I wouldn't be at all upset to see a guy like Rivet and a pick moved for Svitov... Hopefully we can get rid of Perreault and Juneau by Christmas time if we did make this move, and go with a Koivu, Ribeiro, Svitov, Kilger combo down the middle... Once Svitov develops into a #2 guy I don't think anyone would be crying about our lack of size down the middle anymore.

The Habs have depth on defence? We may have depth, as in a surplus of bodies, but we don't have depth, as in quality. If we deal Hainsey, then Komo is the only sure-fire d-man prospect we have. Guys like Archer, Shasby and O'Byrne have not even played full seasons in the AHL yet.
As HA said, good d-men take a few years to develop. Markov was in all kinds of trade rumours a couple of years ago and now he's our best defender. Doc, I know that you said that TBay placed Svitov in a checking role, but I remember when he was drafted, he was being portrayed as a Holik-style, two-way centre. While a player like that would be nice to have, I'm not willing to trade our 2nd best defence prospect to get him. If we are going to deal Hainsey, IMO it should be for a big, offensive centre as opposed to a big, defensive one. This type of trade won't get done with Hainsey alone, but he could be the centerpiece of a package that could potentially seal the deal.
