an article in the gazette i think mentioned a posibility of a trade with the caps sending hackett to washington cuz kolzig got hurt... who would we want from the caps that is realistically available for hackett??? can savard pull another trick out of his sleeves?

I don't know if I would trade Hack to the Caps. Hackett is a real competitive player and has a history of standing on his head when going to a new team. He could be a big boost to the Caps.
Besides, he's very good insurance in case Theodore goes down

Hi wade, welcome aboard. How about Danuis Zubrus for Jeff Hackett? I miss Zubrus... Personally I think Hickey didn't really think this one through. He's forgetting all about the Olympic break. I do not know how long Kolzig is out for, but I haven't heard anything that says its going to be for a few months, so I see no reason why the Caps should panic and make a deal for Hackett. Kolzig has already been out for close to a week, the Olympic break is two weeks long, meaning he will have had a full three weeks to recover from his injury. Even if he isn't quite ready by then, so what if he misses another week? Maybe 2 or 3 games? That would give him close to a month off. I am sure the Caps would rather take their chances with Craig Billington (is that who their backup is?) for a couple of games, rather than be on the hook for a $3.5 million backup to Kolzig next year. Especially if we are only talking about 2 or 3 games. Of course, if Kolzig is out for a LONG while, all bets are off... Who do I really think we could get off of Washington for Hackett? I would guess somebody like Colin Forbes. Big, RW, former Senator. Never really fullfilled any of his potential, but is still relatively young at 25, 26. He would fit the "Savard mold" of trade acquisition, in that he is an NHLer as opposed to a prospect, he is a former Senator and he is in theory somebody Savard should know fairly well. Personally, I wouldn't do it. I'd rather keep Hackett if that's the type of return we are looking at, but I think that would be his trade value.

If we aren't taking Zubrus or a 1st or something, I'd rather keep Hack than give the competition a better chance. I really like having you around. We tend to have similar opinions, so you make my point for me :-) (and I don't have to babble for 20 minutes writing it all out :-P

We'd have to get really good value for Hackett and I'm not sure we'd get what we need from them.Personally I'm not one for dealing with teams in our conference especially a team that is down and out but still only one winning streak away from catching us.I see nothing wrong in holding onto Hackett unless the return is high he is a great insurance policy. IF Washington wants to pay all or 25% of his salary.I would gladdy take a 2nd rounder. We won't be getting a young player like Pettinger or Zubrus for Hackett. This isn't dealing Savage or Rucinsky here-2 guys who many thought had the 'potential' to score 30 goals-Hackett is on the decline,is injury prone and has a salary that must make other teams say(oh wait, there is no vomit smilie).

As our esteemed BC mentioned "Pat Hickey didn't think this one through". You can safely say that about 99% of what he writes in the Gazette. He is easily the poorest columnist covering the Habs on the English side.

Yeah, Pat forgets to wake up before he writes some of his columns. But you know, it's not outside of the realm of possibility. That's a place where silver medals are awarded for gold performances, etc. (Sorry, can't seem to get that out of my system. Perhaps just a small contract and we'll even leave a clue behind...a can of Molson's Canadian). Even if Kolzig is out for the year, and Hackett actually looks like a good replacement (which he would be, after about 3 games to regain his rhythm), Washington would have to give up the moon and the stars for Savard to trade a guy who could really come back to haunt us, to a playoff rival. Better to eat Hack's salary and watch Washington sink below the ice surface.
