Watch for the Swedes to play the Torpedo system. Basically it is a 2-2-1 system where you have the forwards and an offensive defenseman or four forwards in the front four. In the back, you have a defensive defenseman laying back. It suits teams wih a lot of speed. I watched one game that Komisaurus played in Michigan and I think I saw a lot of the Torpedo system. Problem with watching a game on TV is that it is hard to see the entire ice and the playing formation. CLassic trap is 1-2-2 with one forward forechecking. Regular run of the mill play is the 2-1-2 with two forwards forechecking. A lot of teams go between regular 2-1-2 and fall back on the Trap if the have a lead. Then there is the famous Therrien system. He has developed the 2-2-2 system, and it works great for him. Problems is, the other teams and the refs call it to many man on the ice. www.geocities.com/torpedohockey/hockeynews.htmwww.geocities.com/torpedohockey/

I'll say again, I'm relitivly unimpressed by the dynamics of the torpedo system.
The way I see it, it's an equivilent of playing the cherry picker system with one defender who pinches and dishes the puck well. Now, I don't know about the cherry pickers, but I know as a defenceman I LOVED to see them set up a cherry picker system. Why? Because it was an easy way to show off.
Think about it. Two wingers close to the blueline. If the puck comes to them they've still got to turn around and if you're smart you're all over him already anywas. The minute he gets the puck you waste him. If he's inside the blueline and you're really lucky you can catch him while he turns and strip him of the puck. Then you've got TWO count 'em TWO forwards going out of their own zone and not a soul covering you.
Heaven help the goalie when Al MacInnis does this. Strips the puck, steps in and boom. Instant concussion. I can also see migrains developing if a guy like Blake or Niedermyer strip the puck. Dish the puck to Joey or Mario or Paulie and laugh. Out loud.
Every line team Canada has can negate this play. Every team Canada defender knows enough about defence to not let the Torpedoes get behind them.
Sorry - I'm more interested in seeing our team play on the big ice. Plain and simple.
Later...

I agree with TNG here. The torpedo system may work in Sweden. But it won't work in the Olympics.Guys like Pronger,Blake,Jovo,MacInnis,Niedermayer and Brewer can all make a great 1st pass,so that will leave Sweden vulnerable because their 2 guys forechecking and their 2 'halfback's' will all be caught standing. The only man back will be there to defend a 2 on 1 or a 3 on 1.And as you pointed out,if one of our d-man(or one of any country) strip the puck from one of their 4 guys on the attack, and make a great pass to a great goal scorer, they are toast.
