I wonder what hockey fans would rather see? The Habs win another cup or our country strike gold in Salt Lake City?
For me, it is victory in Salt Lake City. It's the olympics and the world is watching. Team Canada can't afford another slip-up in a major international tournament.

How about both? Seriously, for fans all over the country,we want the gold.I think Canadians are confident they are still the best producer of hockey talent, but they need something to prove it to them.A gold medal in SLC,would do just that.

I say it's go for the Gold. The Habs already have 24 Cups. Canada hasn't won the Gold since 1952. I really think it's more important for Canada to win a Gold Medal than for the Habs to win the Cup this year. It's only been 8 years, so I think given the choice you would be happy to wait a year to get another Cup if you could win the Gold.

Selfish old me would pick the Stanley cup anyday, though I certainly will route big time for Canada if they lose I won't be heartbroken we have nothing to prove especially in a sudden death format where anyone can win.If Finland won for example would they have claim to producing the best hockey players I say no.We have nothing to prove to anyone. Give me the cup anyday. Selfish in TO HFTO

A slam-dunk for the Habs. I was a fan since the tender age of five, back in the day of Jean Beliveau. My heart belongs to this team. Impossible to re-direct my devotion. After-all, the site is called HabsRus...not TeamCanadaRus. ;D
Having said that, Go Canada Go!
Canada for the Gold; U.S.A. the Silver; Russia the Bronze...you heard it here first.

CO CO, you've seen the Habs win a Cup, but you've never seen Canada win a Gold Medal in the Olympics. I am really hoping Canada will win the Gold. If they do, I'm going to ask you if you still feel this way about the Cup for the Habs over the Gold. (This post is supposed to be friendly in case it doesn't come across that way.)

I was able to experience the 1993 cup run even though I was only 7 years old,and it was just a tremendous thrill. But winning a gold medal would be just fantastic.Especially after the bitter defeats of 1994(after Forsberg scored that goal,I think I cried for like 20-25 minutes I was so dissapointed) and in 1998(when that &()*?&*(&?*&( Hasek robbed us a medal). Also, when you see the junior teams lose in heartbreaking fashion, like this year( I still say we should have had a penalty shot at the end of the game!) you want a gold medal even more.

I've seen Canada beat the Soviets in '72, '76, '84 and '87 in the Canada Cup for the bragging rights of World Supremecy. Those tourney's were indeed very emotional and of course I was elated...but the emotional tie I have with the Canadiens is second to none...rooting for any other team MORE is an impossibility after having been connected to a team, day-in, day-out for 30+ years and some 3000 plus games starting from the tender age of 5. I've seen Team Canada play, what, 25-30 games? Rooting for Team Canada is a patriotic thing. Rooting for the Canadiens is personal. Team Canada was assembled every four years (now every two); and not at all if the Canada Cup (World Cup) fell within an Olympic year, yet our Habs have been a TEAM my entire life...year after year.
Cheering for Team Canada to win gold over the Habs winning the Stanley Cup would be as alien to me as cheering for Madamme Chretien winning the Lotto over, say, my own mother. A strange analogy, perhaps, but I hope you get the drift.
CO
p.s.
of course I didn't take your post the wrong way...I never do.
Also, if I may...little Canadian boys don't dream of winning gold in the Olympics...they don't (generally) wear Team Canada jerseys over THEIR own favourite team's jerseys when then play "road hockey"...they eat, drink, dream about NHL, their team, and winning the Stanley Cup.
