An article in the Toronto Star caught my attention. It basically shows the difference to shots for and against and how that relates to a teams success.Talent obviously is a major factor but more shots for than against clearly could not hurt. The article with a Toronto slant points to the fact that over a two year period the Leafs have reveresed their shot totals in two years by 600.The improved output has put the Leafs in a much better position standings wise. The Canadiens we a could agree have to take more shots and tighten up as far as shots against.Sometimes shots are over rated but you only have to look at Jose Theodores performance this year to know that this is not the case in Montreal. The Habs have taken 1464 shots have had 1603 against for a total of -139.Thanks to Jose we are still fighting for a playoff spot.with a few exceptions namely New Jersey who miss Mogilny and Buffalo who little or no firepower the top teams are all near the top of this catergory. #1 Bos (3rd overall) SF 1892 SA 1419 +473 #2St.L (6th overall) SF 1692 SA 1291 +401 #3N.Jer(13th overall)SF 1700 SA 1317 +383 #4Det (1stoverall) SF 1789 SA 1513 +276 #5Tor (7th overall) SF 1630 SA 1380 +250 #6Ott (8th overall) SF 1728 SA 1518 +210 #7Buff (22nd overall)SF 1559 SA 1407 +152 #8Phi (2nd overall) SF 1669 SA 1520 +149 #9 Chi (3rd overall) SF 1642 SA 1498 +144 #10Col (5thoverall) SF 1628 SA 1517 +111
Agree or disagree it is a telling stat and surely couldn't hurt shoot the freaking puck! HFTO
