The WHL Western All-Stars and the Quebec Dilio Conference All-Stars are playing tonight, featuring Joe Balej, Duncan Milroy and Christian Larivée are all playing.
Balej had the first WHL goal. It's playing on CTV Sportsnet.

Balej has got some serious wheels. The announcers were going on about him during the skills competition last night, apparently he put on a pretty good show. He occasionally finished his checks, but the rest of the time just seemed to float around in the neutral zone looking for the breakout pass. Not much of a back-checker, it seemed. Then again, this was a pretty meaningless game.
Milroy played a pretty solid game as well, though I only caught the first two periods. Nice hard shot he's got.

Hi,
I taped the game as I was out last night and never had chance to watch, I will watch it today maybe. I did catch the last five minutes or so. I'll agree with your assessment. Just a couple of questions:
1)Adam Russo - was he the same goaltender we had in development camp last August?
2) I was more impressed with Aulin than Balej. Then again, I've only watched the final five minutes yet.
3)Kobasaw - the announcers were saying that he probably will not sign with Calgary. Since he falls under the Van Ryn rule, I wonder if their is a chance we could trade for him and sign him before he becomes an UFA in 2003? Maybe, give Calgary a Garon and our #2 this year? I don't know that may be too much?
Comments?

At the end of the 2nd period,Milroy had one hell of a shift.Very impressed.
Gnick,Calgary has no need for Garon...they just signed Turek long term and they have Krahn and fatty Medvedev for the future.
I really think they will sign Kobasew, they really need him to complement one of Conroy or Savard.

The announcers said they offered Kobasew the maximum after training camp and he refused. Sounds like that's why he returned to junior, to be UFA.
Probably doesn't matter what we offer Kobasew. I'd imagine he has plans of playing next year as an overage junior and then being unrestriced.

Anyways, the Flames should sign him ASAP.They need a guy like Kobasew, because after Iginla, they have no scoring wingers. I remember, during the WJC,Gord Miller saying that Craig Button wanted to get Kobasew signed as soon as possible. Tune in later.

I just had chance to watch the game this morning. The players I was most impressed with were Jared Aulin, Pierre-Marc Bouchard and Scotty Upstall. Billy Thompson was the best goalie in the tournament also. I don't know who owns his rights??
Aulin - has some real talents. His rights are owned by L.A. via the Rob Blake trade last season. A top second line player he is really for the NHL in the near future. I wonder if he has been signed yet??
Upstall - reminds me of a young Shayne Corson. Boy, would I ever love to see this player on Montreal in the near future. This year is his draft year but he is projected to go in the top 6. Gritty like Corson but a little better skater and better hands(four for four in the breakaway competition).
Bouchard - One of the youngest in the game at 17 years old. You can feel the excitement every time he touches the puck. Skates like Jacques Lemaire but has the moves of a Denis Savard and the vision of a Pierre Turgion. I read somewhere that he would go in the second round. Zero chance of that happening. He won't go by Andre Savard when he drafts in the first round. With speed, offense and native boy also, he's too much of what Andre likes.
Linglet - has good size and strength, can also score a few goals. I don't know his age but if he is only 18 he could be a good late round possibly.
Thompson - If he's only 18 and this is his first draft year he could be a good mid-round pick.
Balej(pronounced Bally) and Milroy are fine prospects. But I feel both are a few years from making the NHL. Balej is inconsistent and Milroy is only 19. I agree Milroy showed talent in the late second period. I wonder if Balej will sign or re-enter the draft? I think he will go in the early second round if he re-enters.

No need for you to boost Aulin,I saw him at the WJC and he was awesome. This kid has serious skill.Man,do the Kings ever have a great future up front with Allison,Deadmarsh,Palffy,Aulin,Frolov,Cammaleri,Karlsson etc...now,if they could only give Storr the #1 job(sorry Pam..) I also like Upshall, but Corson is not the right comparaison.A guy likle Claude Lemieux is more like it. Bouchard has some serious skills,I would also be surprised if Ace elects to pick another player instead of him.

You're right. I printed up some info from Hockey's future on the 2003 prospects and Pierre Marc found his way into the wrong pile. Tks.
