Hi Guys
I was wondering if it was time for Andre Savard to start making moves with the players that have no future in the organisation... I don't mean by destroying the great chemistry the team has now, I mean letting go players like Hackett, Kilger and others. I feel they have the depth enought to make deals that won't jeoperdize the teams playoff run. Garon can be called up, it's not like Theo is going to get a break anyways. And I would much rather see Hossa or Darby even on the ice than Chad "Can I get traded again" Kilger.
I beleive you dump Hackett to the Canucks for a player to be named later and a 2nd round draft pick.
Kilger to anyone for a 6th rounder or a player who plays hard "all" the time.
Thanks

Hey Douper, welcome to the board. Now, Chad Kilger...tell us how you really feel about the guy A few weeks ago I would have liked the idea of dealing away Hack, and whatever you perceive as dead-weight on the team, but now I say we have to keep him. Like I've said before, we'd be dealing away Hack to a team that wants a proven back-up going into the playoffs. Well right now it appears we're going into the playoffs, so we have no reason to be a seller from now until the deadline. We could use Hack if something happens to Theo since we have nobody able to back-up right now. Garon is too inexperienced to be relied upon in pressure situations. I say we keep whatever depth we have right now just in case. We could make some noise in the playoff, let's hold onto anything that will give us an advantage.

Hi Douper
Welcom aboard
We do have excess luggage (some may call it depth) but it ain't worth much, I'm thinking guys like Darby, Poulin, Traverse.
Kilger is a different story IMO. The guy can throw solid checks, is a good skater, good at faceoff, nice attitude, works hard and is learning this year to be a good defensive player. Though I don't see him as a core kinda guy, he's certainly a decent support player with some upsides. In one or 2 years he could be our steady 3rd line center and be quite good at that.

Agree that there is still some dead wood on the team but these are players who aren't playing regularly with the team. Patrick Poulin is usually a healthy scratch and Craig Darby is keeping himself busy with the Cits. As for Traverse, I don't really think that we need him that much, and seeing how we have such a major glut of #5 & 6 dmen, I think that he should be shipped out. But the problem with guys like Darby, Poulin and Traverse is that they are marginal players who won't really give us much back other than really late picks. I think Andre Savard already cleared out the real dead wood that we had in terms of players who weren't in his long-term plans (Zholtok, Brunet, Rucinsky, Linden, Zubrus) as well as players who were becoming UFAs and were not going to sign with us (Weinrich, Savage). Seeing how players like Darby and Poulin aren't even regulars, I don't think that we should ship them out for a bag of pucks. For instance if one of our third or fourth liners became injured, I would much rather see Darby or Poulin out there, rather than Xavier Delisle or Eric Landry, like we used to see in the Houle days. Just my two cents of course. (That's around 1.2 cents U.S)

Kilger!!! I thought he played a helluva game against the Pens. He does use his body, not as much as I would like for a big man, but still enough! The guys is one of only a handful of BIG physical players that we have. Granted, he's not in the same category as other power forwards, but he still adds value to the team! You realize the that we have a TON of small forwards and very little grit. ;D Keep Kilger, unless someone makes us a deal we simply cannot refuse! Daze, Amonte, Guerin, Grier are jus t some of the guys I would love to get on tour team, but that's not going to happen.

I don't see the point in trading the fringe players at this stage unless we're getting at least a second line player in return. There is no point in playing with the chemistry of a team that appears to be on a role unless you know it's going to improve the team. Unfortunately the players your talking about would not bring much in return and may throw things off. Chemistry is a strange thing in hockey and you play with it at your own peril. I think the boys have a team thing going right now - winning will do that. When I watch them celebrate like after the win over Pitt they seem genuinely enthusiastic about what they are achieving as a team with a great goalie. I say don't mess unless we're getting a player who can play on the top two lines ie. an offensive player.

Speaking of Daze...remember last year when he was available for Rucinsky??...OK,I'll stop here ;D Yeah,we need to keep Kilger...we need a big forward who can hit.
