"Pierre McGuire was on the fan 590 in the T-Dot earlier, and he and Gord Stellick talked to Gilmour anbout the habs and what not...Gilmour had a lot of good things to say about the team...he has apparently been spending alot of time with Riberio, Markov, Zednick, and Bulis...and The team is getting a long very well, and theres really good chemistry in the Dressing room since he arrived. Gord asked him if thinks Hackett will get traded, and Gilmour said no...He believes the Habs have 2 #1 starters, and he said Hackett has been working really hard in practice and he also said Hackett is an intense competitor...
Later on McGuire was on the fan and said that there were at least five teams interested in Hackett, and he believes the Habs will keep Hackett right until the deadline...He said that the habs won't give away Hackett, and McGuire said he believes Hackett could fetch something good in return...
McGuire said these are the teams interested in Hackett....
Ny Islanders Ny Rangers Toronto St. Louis Pittsburge
McGuire said either NY team has been persuing Hackett the most!"

Yea, but unless we are out of the playoff race, why would we trade to any of the Eastern teams? Especially, Pittsburgh unless they are out of the it. They do have a great defensemen but he's a FA this year. I doubt they would give him up for a backup goalie. Savard has not nor does not seem to want to trade for players in that situation.
Now, St. Louis is a possibility. There goaltending in the playoffs have been shaky the past three years.

The only way we should deal Hack is if we're out of the playoffs at the deadline.
The reasoning behind Hack is that every team wants a solid back-up going into the playoffs as an insurance policy. Well it looks like we could compete in the playoffs, so why not enjoy the luxury we already have?

Guys, if Mike Milbury goes nuts and offers us Isbiter for Hackett, who cares if Hack comes back to beat us.We have no more games against the Isles, they will probably make the playoffs even if they don't pick up Hack.
I would trade him if we can get something good, regardless to which team.

Scott, why would the Blues want Hackett who has played in something like 7 career playoff games to help solve their playoff woes? They need a proven, veteran goalie who has won in the past.

If McGuire says it...then it has no basis aside from his own speculations. Given his record of continual rant on Savard's work, I wouldn't be suprised that he made up all these "interests" just to put pressure on Savard and be able to come back some day to say "...I can't believe why Savard did not trade Hackett back in Feb 2002 when he had all these options...". Mark my word here, he WILL say that at some point...
Can you tell I don't like this guy...
Early in the season, McGuire was making up all sorts of phony rumours about Betuzzi that he claimed was coming from a source in the Nucks organization. Burke eventually got fed up with McGuire's act and went public to say something along the lines of "...McGuire has no credibility, he's making stuff up, he's got no real source around this team and probably not more on any teams...".

Well, you both are now officially off Pierre's Christmas list.
I found Killer's comments more interesting. The names of the guys he's 'spending time with'. The fact that Hackett is still working hard. The good chemistry on the team. When Savard signed Gilmour, I was ambivalent about it. While I thought he was a good character guy (if you can't believe Don Cherry, who can you believe?) I wasn't sure he had enough in the tank at his age. He's certainly proved he has. Which makes you wonder what the heck Lindy Ruff did to Doug's psyche last year to mess him up so much and to tick him off so much. Regardless of his size, as long as he's contributing, he's welcome. Now if he could just realize that at his age, his best role next year is as a 4th line checker and team motivator rather than scorer. then he'd fit in better than battling it out with Saku, Yanic and Joe for a top 2 line spot. He has certainly been a big contributor to Montreal's rise since Christmas.

I found Gilmour's comments encouraging as well. I love the idea that he's spending time with the likes of Bulis, Zednick, Ribeiro, and Markov. What Gilmour can offer these players, in terms of wisdom and leadership, is arguably more important than any points he puts up. In a similar fashion, Hackett's intensity and work ethic are showing the younger players that you still have to work hard, and be professional - even when things aren't going your way.
I think the Habs should definitely keep Gilmour around next season. Barring anymore freak injuries or illnesses, we'll finally have the depth to ice a four line NHL team. I don't think Gilmour would be insulted at the prospect of 8-10 minutes a game, with decent wingers like Petrov and Kilger, on the fourth line. Given the Habs recent injury woes, he'd probably move up in the depth chart at some point in the season anyway.
