Now that you've confessed your sins at the Chruch of father Habaroni down below (if you didn't..well you must...) Let's see if you're ready to rid yourself of that uncomfortable Aureola and sin right back by entertaining offers for Theo... ;D

Star or Superstar goalies are hard to find. This kid (25? kid?) has established himself as a Star goalie. Prince Vinnie has done nothing yet. But, ask me about Joe Thorton or Kovalchuk and don't bother opening the door. I will go through it to get to the fax machine. Everyone has a price.

Certainly, one for one for any number of the game's superstars, I'd move him. I've always maintained that "anything's (anyone's) for sale....for the right price".
Having said that, a team such as ours (or any) in the "rebuild" mode should, and in fact must, build from the net out. Dealing an obvious "superstar-to-be" goaltender (and I do mean "SUPERSTAR"), even for a superstar-to-be center, I believe to be somewhat backward.
Straight up for Vinny? No way. Already established, youthful stars such as Joe Thornton or even the rookie sensation Kovalchuk? I probably would be persuaded, especially seeing as how potentially rich we are in tender depth. If there were nothing in the cupboard, I'd be much more likely to balk.
Great topic!

I think I'd have to do it. I believe you find more good goalies around than franchise skaters.
But I certainly understand why some people would say no way. If you think Theo is more of an established star in this league that Vinny, then I can't argue for not wanting to gamble.
In my estimation Vinny will be a franchise center in this league for the next 15 years. At the very least he's Pierre Turgeon, but his upside is to be as good as anyone in the league right now (Mario excluded of course).
I would pull the trigger, especially with our wealth of goaltenders in the system, it's not like Theo is our last hope at a strong goaltender.

HA, CO, you are right, everyone has its value. But frankly can any single player win us more games on their own then Theo can? Star Goalies are quite unique at taking a rather ordinary team beyond ordinary results. It takes quite a formidable forward to do the same with an ordinary goalie in the net. Bure, Karya and Selanne come to mind quickly as All-Star forward that didn't take their own franchise too far.
As for our goaltending depth, a good goalie prospect is only that: a good goalie prospect. Buffalo traded their star goaltender to play Biron and it looks like it's gonna be the difference between playoff or not. And we don't have to look too far back in our own history to see what a real franchise goalie can do for a team compared to what trading him did.
When you start mentioning names like Thornton and Kovalchuck it gets reeeaaally tough but I'd keep Theo just as well.

Tough question though my first reaction is that you keep theodore though you'd have to consider a Thorton or Kovalchuk.I'm of the beleif you work from the goal out a goalie will win you more games in the long run.Theo shows no signs of waivering so ho the true test will be next year and the year after that, hopefully with a few playoff dates in between. I have to go with Doc on this one.
How many 1-0 games can you expect to win with avg goaltending?
Would you trade a young Roy for any of these players?
Realistically Theodore is approaching that level without the playoff heorics. Of course that is a big Without but considering he has won under pressure in every other league.
IMHO there is more pressure on Theo today to win everyday in this playoff race then there will be in teh 1st round of the playoffs

I'd swallow hard and do it. It seems like top shelf offensive talent is harder to find than an excellent goalie these days, and Quebec seems to be pumping them out regularly. Scotty Bowman used to say that you build a team from the posts out, but when you look at recent Cup winners like Colorado, Dallas, and Detroit, those teams won with acquired goalies (Roy, Belfour, Vernon) rather than home-grown talent. Certainly a tough call.

Dock, hate to break it to you,but a Theo for Vinny deal has about as much of a chance of happening than Osama Bin Laden becoming an American citizen ;D
The Bolts don't need Theodore, they have Khabibulin
And the whole point in getting Vinny was rebuilding the franchise around him,Theo and whoever would be left of our stud D's.
