I'm sure there are a lot of "us" in the US who love the Canadiens. Over the years, my family has put up LARGE TV antenna's so we could pull in the closest CBC affiliate. In our case, that's Kingston, Ontario. Just over Lake Ontario as the TV signal flys.
Then cable came into our lives and during the late eighties and early nineties, I was able to see many Canadien games. Oh, those overtime games in '93 made for many a late night! ;D Then came Fox. I was regulated to only seeing the boys play New York City area teams as cable dropped our Boston station. Later they added ESN so I got to see them play the Sabres but the broadcasting teams is just a little to much to take at times.
After the dark days of Fox were over and ESPN again came back, I was pleased...at first. Sadly, ESPN has chosen to basically ignore the Canadian teams. Even their web site hardly covers them.
This leads me to the Internet. Thank Al Gore (or whoever ) for inventing the Internet. Now, I can at least listen to the games and keep up with Canadien news from the various official, unofficial and newspaper sites. The discussion boards bring even more fun and excitement as we all can share our thoughts and opinions of the team we love to follow and hockey in general.
Now, thanks to digital cable, which I'm getting this Friday and the subscription service called NHL Center Ice, I should be able to catch around 20 Canadien games between now and the end of the season starting with Saturday's game in Toronto.
So, I've come full circle and instead of a LARGE antenna, I've got a smalle wire bringing me the sounds and sights of Montreal Canadiens hockey. Cheers!!
