Anyone else think it could happen? I don't know, probably not, but look at the stats - who deserves it more right now?
And this from the Power Rankings over at cbssportsline.com: "Goaltender Jose Theodore will be very hard to ignore when it comes time to vote for the Vezina Trophy"
thoughts?

Personally I would have to think Nicolai Khabibulin is the odds on favorite. Not only does he have better stats than Theodore, but he is playing on a much worse team.
If Team Russian does some damage in the Olympics, I would have to think Khabibulin would be a shoo-in.

I don't think that the play in the Olympics is used to determine the Vezina winner in the NHL. If Russia goes far in the Olympics, it would only mean that Khabibulin would not be as rested as Theo will be come down the stretch.
I would have to think that if (when) the Habs make the playoffs, Theo would be a lock for the Vezina. Playing in his first all-star game is a move in the right direction. He will gain much deserved exposure (won't be over shadowed by the story of 500+ man games lost, Koivu's cancer, etc).
The people voting on the awards will take notice!!

I don't think the success of a goalie in the Olympics SHOULD have any bearing on who wins the Vezina trophy. It is meant to award his achievements in the NHL. But I agree with BC, the 'bulin Wall's play has been remarkable for a far inferior team. If it comes down to it, if Khabibulin plays extremely well and Russia wins the gold, that may be what sways a voter's opinion. It shouldn't, but it could.
The way Theo has been playing, he is definitely a candidate. And if he leads us to the playoffs (because we all know we wouldn't be anywhere close to them without him) he will get serious consideration for the award. The way I see it, at this point, Roy, Khabibulin and Theo should be the 3 candidates.
I'd be happy if he was acknowledged as one of the top 3.

Theo deserves consideration, but the Bulin wall should get it.And Roy deserves it too.(believe me,I know,I have both of them on my fantasy team 8))

Just being considered and garnering a few votes and finishing in the top 5 would be more than enough to satisfy me. He has many many seasons ahead of him for those types of accomplishments.
I can't help but wonder that if he wins it in his first full season, will he get over-confident and too cocky?
I'd rather see him hungrier next season for trophies like that.

Sure,it can be disastrous come contract time, but when you need to win a playoff series,it can only help,i.e. a chap named Roy

I'm with you on that one, Shane. I'd rather he come in 3rd, 4th, 5th than take it all. I would like to see hungry for years to come.
MPLabbe, the last time we had a cocky goaltender, he became bigger than the Habs in his eyes and is now playing elsewhere... IMHO, THAT'S what's wrong with a young goaltender being too cocky. I'd rather keep a good goaltender for years than have to trade him because HE believes he is GOD'S GIFT to hockey!!!
Just my opinion...
