Savage and a third (either 02 or 03 at Coyotes' choice) + futures in exchange for Sergei Berezin. (2.9 per year until?)
I'm not thrilled, but he can certainly wheel and put the puck in the net. He's 31 years old. If he plays with any fire, it's an upgrade.

Offensively, Berezin is an upgrade but he seems even softer than Savage (according to PIMs and hits). We'll have to see IF he's happy playing with the Habs. Apparently, Berezin has played with Perreault, so maybe they'll be reunited? Were they any good together? Wouldn't that be a soft pairing? Who would we put with them?
At least Andre Savard did manage a nice return for a UFA...

For real!! Do I get to see him this weekend? I'm glad he's out of Phoenix. It was a bad spot for him. Maybe he can get revenge on Pat Quinn for trading us by the Habs beating the Leafs the next two times they meet. It would help us Leafs Berezin fans get revenge on Quinn at the same time. ;D Savage and a third (either 02 or 03 at Coyotes' choice) + futures in exchange for Sergei Berezin. (2.9 per year until?) How the once potentially mighty have fallen. Is that all we can get, their problems for ours. Neither is having a good year. It's like trading Johnny Walker Red for a Taliban to be named later. Not a big deal for either team.

I don't mind this trade at all, especially in light of the season Savvy's been having, his UFA status, and the player coming back who'll have a bone to pick with the Leafers each and every game he plays against them.
As I posted weeks ago, Brian's playing himself right off of this team. He was the master of his own destiny. Guess I was right.
What DOES bother me is Savard's tendency to, yet again, "throw-in" a draft pick. You'd think that 1-for-1 would have been enough here?
Also, one wonders if Savard's gonna take some flack in the press for pulling the trigger too far removed from March, ala Weinrich/Traverse, where geniuses such as Pierre Maguire appear screaming that there were at least a half-dozen better offers in the wings.
Guess we'll wait and see.
Welcome Sergie...farewell Brian

Guess we'll wait and see. We'll know soon enough. If Savage really is intent on testing the UFA markets, then I would imagine the Coyotes will flip him at the deadline to the highest bidder. Then we will see whether Savard's strategy of trading them as soon as he gets an offer he likes really is to the benefit of the team. This could be a very interesting test! I think I just might be following the Coyotes come March 14th!

Original reaction I must say is disappointment. For a guy who has said many times he wanted to remain a Hab Brian sure did not play or act like it.he made his bed and like BC said Andre has no time for someone who won't negotiate in good faith. Sergei Bereizin I did see most of the games when he had his big season and wondered how he did it.Good speed good shot but disappears on too many occassions, maybe Perreault will rekindle his knack for the net, lord knows we need it. I'll wait and see but the pick throw in seems to be a trend going back to Reggies regime.I'm pressuming that Savage's status was the sticking point.Smaller softer may have to change the Habs dark blue to smurf blue. I don't know you guys, but being stranded in Ontario-ario going to school last spring meant that the only playoff game that I could concievably be allowed to watch were the Toronto ones (sigh - it hurt, it really did). And that meant I saw a lot of Berezin. And I'll tell you one thing.
He's scary.
Not constipated rhino/Komisarek scary, but Petrov/"Gino Odjick has three goals in how many games?" scary. The kid's got some real slick moves, a strong shot and he moves like liquid across the ice. I watched him a couple times that series just step around the defence and blast one at the goalie. Lalime handled most of the shots with relative ease, but the Sens defence were left scratching their heads.
Maybe not bigger - but absolutely an upgrade in the faster catergory.
I like... not a whole lot because of the picks and stuff... but it's a respectable deal given the situation.
