Hitch fired, Gainey "reassigned". It was only a matter of time. Poor old Gainey did a terrible job in the off-season, signing every free-agent regardless of the affect on team chemistry. And the fat man's act was getting old. Can't be a prick to your players all the time.

Hmmmmmm, with both of these guys winning records, I wonder if they would be an upgrade on Therrien...
Gainey has a great track record as GM, was known for his hard work within the Habs organization as a player/captain (he's the last guy to hold the captaincy for over 5 years). He also speaks French, which the French media would like...
Hitchcock brought Dallas to 5 consecutive Division titles and 1 Stanley Cup, which is not too shabby for a record...
Thoughts anyone?

I would rather see us stick with what we got in the front office for now. Savard seems to be doing a good job and Therrien is popular with the players. Hitchcock has a way of alienating his players. Also he dosen't seem to trust young players at all. MT has been using young guns like Ribiero, Theodore because he knows that is the only way they will improve. If we brought in Hitchcock, I'm sure we would regret it. I don't think he is the type of coach you need to rebuild a team. When he went to Dallas he had guys like Modano and Hatcher to build around. We haven't got anyone like that.

I was not implying we get rid of Andre Savard, as I am one of his big supporters. It was rather the coaching aspect I am worried about.
You are correct in saying that Hitchcock does not trust young players and he was not really my first choice, but he's still be an upgrade on Therrien. I would much prefer Gainey. The post was also meant to see what people's thoughts were on our coaching situation.
Having said that, although Therrien is using rookies, does he have a choice? Also, what about his handling of Markov? Asham, sitting most of the time? How about Ribeiro, our best prospect this year, playing only 8 minutes against WAS, less than even Shaun Van Allen who playing over 9 minutes (only Odjick played less time than Ribeiro...)? Need I get into the Robidas AND Traverse debate? How about our team being amongst the League-leaders in bench minors?
I still think that we need an upgrade in the coaching department IF we are serious about the playoffs and that the present staff is not up to the task (except for maybe Rollie Melanson, who seems to be doing a great job with ALL our goaltenders).

coach's name without it being automatically changed? I know I called him by his proper name and my posts are changed to Hitchthingy. I am always respectful of people's names and do not go around changing their names for no reason. Maybe if I type thingy it'll change it to C 0 C K (clock without the l) ;-)

It could be the same problem I had. It used to change Leafs to Laffs because the guy who wrote the program doesn't like the Leafs. Maybe he doesn't like the Stars either and he programed Hitch's name that way. CO fixed the Leafs problem. If Hitch is the same problem, CO can probably fix it too. coach's name without it being automatically changed? I know I called him by his proper name and my posts are changed to Hitchthingy. With Gainey's GM record in Dallas, if this is true, then I would love for Pat Quinn to be fired and Gainey to be hired as the new Leafs GM. I know they just re-signed Quinn, but there has to be some way they could do it. Problem is, Quinn is so greedy and power hungry he'll probably stab everyone in the back so he can move up the ladder. I really hate Quinn being GM!! Hmmmmmm, with both of these guys winning records, I wonder if they would be an upgrade on Therrien... WOW i'm shocked! Gainey gets fired Hitchcock gets fired?!!?? These guys have done a great job with that team for many years and this is the thanks they get. Wonder how bobby clarke feels knowing he is 1/2 the GM that gainey is.
The habs should jump all over gainey and offer him anything in the office. He is a great hockey mind, and bleeds red, white and blue. Why do you think he always had 2 or more ex habs in his lineup.

I Don't Want to get into trouble for shooting my mouth off, or anything like that, but here I go... Newly acquired Hab Shaun Van Allen is a hometown for me. As you all know, we got him in the Rucinsky deal, with the Stars. Now Shaun has lots of frinds around town, as he hosts a golf tourey in the summer, and does whatever he can to help raise money for a new arena for me to dangle in. Now, from what I hear (as I look around to make sure nobody is listening), is that Hitchcock runs somwht of a 2-tiered show. Role players are no allowed to hang out with the Stars' stars. Guys like Shaun were to keep their distance from Modano, Nieuwendyk, Belfour, Turgeon, et al. They had to sit in different parts of the restaraunts, and couldn't socialize with the upper crust of the team. So, do wereally want to hire this guy on the spot? I think not...
