With the injury to Audette and the illness of Koivu and our seemingly endless injury woes, I wonder if we should be looking to add another offensive type winger. A couple guys that I would really be interested in are Sergi Berezin in Phoenix and Alex Korolyuk in San Jose. I know, I know, they are both smurfs and we already have many of those, but I think they would be cheap and effective none the less. Berezin most definaley does not fit in in Phoenix. His numbers reflect that. I bet they would be willing to part with him for maybe a second tier prospect and a 3rd or 4th round draft pick. Korolyuk, on the other hand would likely be much cheaper. He is not well liked by coach Sutter in San Jose and has not been used well by Sutter at all. I think a change of scenery would do him good. While on the subject of San Jose, I wonder what it would cost to fetch us Patrick Marleau? Brian Savage maybe? How about Yannick Perrault? Im sure we would have to kick in more than that, maybe a high draft pick or a ...hey...how bout a goalie. Hackett and Savage for Marleau and Korolyuk... I like it Thoughts anyone?

Doc and I talked about a trade of Marleau/Selanne to Montreal for Savage/Petrov/Perreault. I nixed Savage. San Jose doesn't need any goalies. They have a great tandem of Nabby/Kipper. The only reason they could trade Hedberg away last season was because they have too many goalies in their farm system that are starters. They have Toskala waiting in the wings. Toskala has been called up a couple of times already and he is supposed to be good too, so Hackett isn't needed in SJ. Alex Korolyuk is a Russian. Mike Smith the GM of the Hawks loves Russian players. My thought was Alex would fit with the Hawks. When I went to the Women's Hockey game in SJ on Tuesday night I was talking to a lady I see at the Sharks games alot. We talked about Alex and she agreed with me on Alex to Chicago because she too is aware of Smith liking Russians. Alex has a lot more talent than is obvious to an outsider. He gets next to nothing in ice time, so it doesn't show. I really like Berezin. He was one of my favorite Leafs. I was more P.O.d than you could ever imagine when Quinn let him go, just like when he let Perreault go. I would love to see Berezin on a team where he could do better. You're right, he doesn't fit in Phoenix and I'm sure that's why he isn't doing better. The Leafs would have done better to keep Berezin instead of getting Green and Reichel in that double deal with Phoenix for Renberg and Reichel. After I see the Habs LIVE games this Saturday and Sunday, I will know better if a Petrov/Perreault, along with something else, trade with San Jose for Marleau/Selanne would be a good one or not. Or maybe just Marleau to Montreal and Selanne elsewhere. After all I've heard about Savage I don't want him on either the Leafs or Sharks. Let the Habs send him somewhere else.
