nothing of consequence

The latest weekly stats were put on Hockeysfuture by Chris Bouchard for the Habs prospects and some entries got my little grey cells working (quite an achievement, since they'd rather lay around eating chips and drinking coffee). Tarasov is supposed to have gone with the Habs on their latest road trip. It appears he is nearly healed and should be back in Quebec shortly. If so, it opens up possibilities. Personally, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him as Theo's back up by March.
Marc Andre Thinel is having a poor year. Since I've envisioned this guy as another type of Mike Ribeiro, it's interesting to compare the two. Both ok in height, but slight in weight, both good puckhandlers and both prolific juniour scorers. Ribeiro, however, after much prodding, exhorting and therapy sessions with Doc, took his game to a different level. Ribeiro did find his scoring touch in the minors (in all fairness to Thinel, it was later in the year that Mike put it together) and has continued to pick up his game in the show. Thinel hasn't made that breakthrough and it doesn't look good at this point.
Ward has been pretty consistent this year, has put up some points, banged around, and has remained healthy.
Perezhogin was supposed to have been checked out by Habs medical people. The knee is ok but needs about 2 weeks rest. No surgery necessary.
The rest was pretty normal update stuff. So the farm looks ok. The goaltending situation is becoming less settled in some ways, after Theo. I'm still waitng for AS to pull the trigger on a Kariya deal. Just guessing of course, but he sure seems to want the big gun and I don't blame him. One superior player can make up for numerous better than average ones. An interesting point was made on Spector's site the other day, that while Lou Lamoriello may want to put together a deal for a good player (eg Kariya), he may not have the talent in the farm system to pull it off. Jersey's prospects aren't as top-flight as they once were. The Habs, drafting earlier, have a solid group so far, so does it make sense for AS to go for Kariya? Keep in mind that Paul is having such a poor year that his trade value may be down at this point. It's been a slow week, what the heck, just a bone to toss around.
