I was at a conference in London this past week and Scotty Bowman was the guest speaker for the big evening. Very entertaining, he started by showing three motivational video's he had made for the Red Wings during their cup runs. They were voice overs of movie scenes, where the main character was rallying the troops in Patton, Braveheart, and Gladiator. Funny stuff, I was laughing so hard I had tears rolling down my cheeks. In talking about the teams he coached, he did say that the Habs were the best, in his words, they were "stacked". Surprisingly his favorite/best player was Nicolas Lidstrom, the "most consistant player" he has seen over the last 10 years. He spent about the last 10 minutes of the presentation simply talking about hockey today, how the salary cap has and will establish parity in the league. He also commented on the referee's now. A coach used to "work" a ref during a game to get the calls to go his way, but that no longer works. They simply call everything. He said that now they scout the ref's ahead of time so they know what to expect. All in all, he was a very entertaining and informative speaker - if you are interested in hockey. And I got get to shake his hand as well.
