Pretty crazy stuff here. Forget 2nd man in....how about 4th and 5th.....

Phil Roberto's first year...Beliveau's and Fergie's last.

Mickey Redmond is still in the lineup....so it's before Jan. 13/71 (when he was traded to Detroit for Frank Mahovlich.) The Bruins were the defending Cup champs and running away with the all the scoring records.

Late in the season, Dryden would get called up and the Habs would go on to win the Cup....beating the Bruins in Round 1.

As you can see, the Habs weren't afraid of the big, bad Bruins. Guy Lapointe really tags Cashman.

I wonder if it all would have played out that way had Pete Mahovlich parked his ass on the bench instead of going on the ice. It's hard to see if it was in response to a Bruins player leaving his bench, but the announcers (unsure of who they are) mentioned him leaving a bench before anyone else.

The chippiness started when they were showing the highlight of the trip...so perhaps Mahovlich thought he was coming on for the PP....shift-chamge type of thing.

Who knows.

Looked like he didn't have his gloves on. I'd have to go back to see if they show him dropping them while on the ice.

Mahovlich comes into frame with no gloves. Then the announcer says, "as there are more players on the ice for both teams."

So perhaps he saw Mahovlich first....but in fact, Peter jumped on because there was one extra Bruin out there already?
