Saturday's third period collapse reminded me of another early December game that took place 12 years ago....and there's still a connective thread, IMO.
The 12-2 loss to Detroit on Dec. 2, 1995 which resulted in our franchise goalie demanding and getting a trade, began a snowball of Houle deals that ripped this franchise to its core. And we're still recovering. We've known nothing but mediocrity or downright disappointment since. Certainly very few highs.
And just to complete the connection...next up...the Detroit Red Wings who are very capable of embarrassing us once again.
Could someone either list or point me to a site that lists/outlines the decimating deals Houle made?

Not just the trades - how about the drafting ie: passing on Marian Hossa & Simon Gagne in favor of Jason Ward & Eric Chouinard. Yikes.

I'm hoping that BG doesn't show up at tomorrow night's game . . . or that he sits far faaarrrrrrr away from the play.

You can make any GM look bad by looking at the players they passed on, though. Pre-draft reports had Hossa looking like Rucinsky and Ward was a sure-thing (Chipchura-like), with possible offensive upside à la Adam Graves.

Yeah, that's the kind of stuff I want to know.
Who he traded Damphousse for....that kind of thing.

Yeah, that's the kind of stuff I want to know. Who he traded Damphousse for....that kind of thing. In 2000, Damphousse was a UFA to be, and we got a 2nd rounder for him, and a 1st rounder would be added if SJ re-signed him, which they did - though the 2nd rounder was shifted a year later, since SJ didn't like losing their top 2 picks the same year. While it looks bad, it's more a reflection of the fact that long-time Habs wanted out, the team was visibly going nowhere - though Damphousse claims no one really offered him a contract before moving him. In 1996, Turgeon, Fitzpatrick and Conroy and went for Corson and Baron. IMO that was the deal that really hurt us most, since for the next several seasons we really only had Damphousse and Koivu at center, and when Saku got hurt, we weren't deep. Corson we lost as a UFA. Recchi went in 1999 for a 2nd rounder and Zubrus, which was good return for another UFA to be, the problem again being that top players wanted out. Tucker we lost in 1998, in a major deal that didn't get us anyone worthwhile in the long run. Houle bet on guys like Rucinsky and Savage, and while they were good scoring wingers, without prime talent to feed them, they weren't going to get much done. Best way to find trades is to look at hockeydb.com, look up a player, and click the "show trades" button, though it can be hard to know the details in more complicated cases like the Damphousse deal. That being said, none of those deals is as bad, IMO, as the Ribeiro deal, which could be seen right from day 1 as being a flop. And right now Ribeiro would be our top scorer, and would give us that 2nd scoring line we need so badly....

Remember what we gave up to get him in the first place? If you take him out of the equation, it was Dejardins and Leclair for a 2nd rounder and Zubrus, with Recchi as a couple of year rental player. Ouch.
