I heard a familiar voice the other day when the Cartoon-Retro channel on Bell ExpressVu was on in the background. "Raccoons" (1981-92), was on the air. The episode was "Raccoons on Ice" from 1981....in which the Raccoon Team had to defend their pond from the Bear Team by playing a hockey game. Being a show for small children, the voices are usually over-the-top or cutesy. But the voice doing the play-by-play seemed out-of-place....a bit too real. I thought, "No, it can't be him. If not, it's a great impression." I watched the credits....and it was him. Danny "the best, bar-none, ever, period" Gallivan

HNIC MontageThis'll bring back some memories for some us! Gallivan featured near the end. Lafleur's famous goal vs. Boston, Game 7, 1979. For a full dose of "Danny", here's Game 1 highlights of the 1979 series against Toronto. It was the Habs' first playoff game, as they had a bye from the first best of 3 round. Leafs take a 2-0 lead....but it turns in to a 5-2 Montreal win, followed by 3 more....then on to that 7-game Bruins' series. Roger Doucet's anthem...and Claude Mouton's 3-star announcement are also included.

One of my favourite shows growing up .... Ol Cyril Sneer. Who'd a thunk Cedrig was such a good hockey player?

A scintillating interview with Danny from 1990. He was 73.

I remember a great Danny Gallivan interview, I wish I could watch it again. From late 70s, early 80s, probably early 80s. He was on a tv show which came on CTV. I can't remember the name of show. But it came on CTV, Saturday afternoons, half an hour show on every week. Where a panel interview a sports celebrity. Anyone remember the show?

Sometimes I wonder if people realize most Habs fans have never heard this guy, or even heard of him. I've only heard of him on this board.
If there's a legendary Habs voice, it's René Lecavalier.

Sports Hot Seat with Johnny Esaw was name of tv show I was trying to think of earlier. I found episode with Pocket Rocket on. Another with Red Fisher. But couldn't find episode with Gallivan on. Now, there's a trigger ... Johnny Esaw was one of the earliest memories I have of a sportscaster ... I remember him covering the CFL, when the CFL was an excellent sport to watch ... but, I remember him more for that postgame interview he did with Phil Esposito back in '72 ... it was after Game 4 (Vancouver) of the '72 Summit Series, and Team Canada had just finished embarrassing themselves against the Russians ... it wasn't enough to lose, the team resorted to bush-league tactics that resembled a schoolyard ball hockey game ... the Vancouver crowd wasn't buying it, and they expressed their disdain ... this is what set up the Esaw/Esposito classic interview ... if you want to know what leadership is about, check out that interview ... Esposito basically told the country to take a pill, and this was just one of the factors why the series turned around ... as for Mr. Fisher, I have a lot of his old columns in my scrapbooks ... I liked his style of writing, where he'd report the story by talking to the reader ... Cheers.

A few channels via radio waves and tv antenna. We got addicted to the HNIC, for me another was Duke Snider and Dave Van Horne. Gary Carter, Steve Rogers, etc... I remember Esaw on CFL games also? Johnny Rodgers, Sonny Wade and those guys. Allouettes. There is a good Henri Richard interview Dis. On youtube, search Sports Hot Seat. SHould find it. There is a great Gallivan one also. He as on SHS, half an hour show, about 1980. But I can't find it. He talks a lot about lines in late 50s, those 60s Cup teams and the 70s. I remember he credits the Habs teams who made him famous. If I find it I will tell you where it is

What I can remember of Gallivan interview, been like 40+ years ago. He was talking about great teams. If I remember right, lines were Rocket, Pocket Rocket with Dickie Moore. Jean Believeau between Boom Boom Geoffrion and Bert Olmstead. How those two lines for fire power? Claude Provost was on checking line. With Goyette and Andre Pronovost I believe. Ralph Backstrom centered the third line, but can't remember his line mates.
On defense Harvey, 2nd best defenseman ever. Tom Johnson was on it, won a Norris I think. Jean Guy Talbot who was a solid d-man. JC Tremblay who probably should be in hall of fame. Jacques Plante was in net. How is that for a team??

May 10, 1973. HNIC feed, with Gallivan calling all the goals in the Cup-clinching Game 6 at Chicago Stadium.
The Pocket Rocket's 11th Cup. Cournoyer wins the Conn Smythe.
