I wonder what Gainey would have to give up to land Drake and Mayers from St Louis... These are two players that would help us out tremendously... We have a better chance at landing the struggling Mayers but I want Drake more. I've always been a huge fan of Drake because of how he plays hard every night and can skate, hit, fight, and give it 100% every game.. Since Al Mac is out they would need a right Dman so what about Drake, Mayers for Rivet, Perreault, Juneau or Audette.
What do you guys think? btw how can I e-mail Gainey.. his adress isn't listed on site.

btw Mayers makes only 800k and has size and some skill. He is healthy this season but is struggling with the Blues. we can get this guy for cheap I think and he is what we need.. I hope Gainey is looking into this possibility...
Drake would cost more but if we just try to get Mayers then we won't have to give up much....
I would really like to get rid of Juneau, Audette, Perreault, Dackell, Sundstrom. Perreault is defineatly a good assett to acquire some heart and grit. Mayers please!

I see Mayers as a 4th line player, and I think our 4th line is the least of our problems (for once). Then again, I haven't really seen him play for a year or 2, so maybe he has more upside than I realise. EDIT: TSN thinks he has 3rd line potential, but still, our biggest problem now and in the future is scoring - we have a glut of players who can play on the 3rd or 4th line.

Mayers is a 3rd liner and Drake a 2nd liner... if we can land thse two guys then it would drastically change our hockey team... it would give us size, grit, heart, leadership..... juneau is almost done in Montreal and Mayers is a C/RW so if we land him imagine a third line next year centered by Higgins and on the left side is Bulis and right side is Mayers... how sick would that be? and adding drake to ribeiro's line would be great because Dallas creates room and will do all the dirty work for Mikey.
EDIT: What we need is heart and grit.....Mayers and Drake would fix that problem along with the size we already have that would give us a big and girtty 3rd and 4th line.. what we have needed for a long time we still need one more scoer for the top 2 lines and to get rid of deadwood but i think mayers and drake would make this team a lot better with their addition and with the loss of someone like perreault and juneau.. slow guys who are way too soft

Players currently on our roster who can play the 3rd/4th line: Bulis, Juneau, Dackell, Sundstrom, Begin, Langdon, Ward, Kilger, Ryder. That's 9 players.... I can see Mayers being a useful player in the future for us but I don't really see where he would fit in this year. Giving up Perreault if Koivu is out long term might be a mistake - Mayers will not replace his scoring. Still, it's worth BG exploring to see what St. Louis would want.
EDIT: I think the biggest reasons we have lost the games we've lost are poor team defense and not enough scoring. Mayers will not solve our scoring problems, and no one player alone can make the whole team play as a unit.

yes true but i said we should acquire him and drake.. drake will make room for our scorers and can get some points too. once koivu is back we should get rid of perreault and juneau,
and yeah we have tons of players that can play 3rd or 4th line but for the wrong reasons cuz they are soft and arent skilled... mayers is a real 3rd liner and can he had and he is cheap at 800k... we need to dump dackell, juneau, sundstrom and get a real third line. one that can intimidate as well as shut down top players... bulis-kilger-mayers would be great and our 4th line of langdon-begin-ward is great too
both those lines are what they should be: big, intimidating but also with brains and some skills. those are fantastic 3rd and 4th lines.... and drake-ribeiro-hossa isn't a bad 2nd line... ryder-koivu-zednick as top line for now is good too...
i think that acquiring those 2 players can help us a lot.... once koivu comes back though...
our soft and small players like juneau, dackell, sundstrom and perreault better be mostly gone by christmas and all gone by the trading deadline.
edit: and the reason we are losing is because of players who just dont care... the team attitude stinks.. the softies have got to go.

And it's exactly that reason that we're hardly going to get anybody for them. They're softies and they don't care. You think that will get us decent players in return?

Dallas Drake at 34 years old would not really fit into our plans. I would not trade anything significant for him at this point, I'd much rather add more to the deal and get a younger player. Mayers would be interesting, but it all depends on how much we would have to give up. St-L cannot take on much salary, so Perreault, Audette and rivet are out of the question at this point. I wouldnt trade Perreault, a 20+ goal man, for another 3rd/4th liner, we already have too many as it is. With the addition of Begin and Langdon, and the return of Kilger (too bad Ward got injured), I dont think we need more grit on the bottom 2 lines, we need it on the top 2.

ok and drake can play on the top two lines and he has speed and grit and heart... he would fit in wellwith koivu and zed. we need veteran leadership.

Thirty four? Has it been that long? I watched Drake play center as a 17 year old on the then Vernon Lakers. He was more an imitation of Wayne Gretzky than a heart and soul guy. Not as talented obviously but same style....dipsy doodler, good passer. Not a digger or gritty at all. Amazing how some players change.

Dallas Drake would be a dirty version of Randy MacKay. Drake isn't a legitimate second liner in my book either. He's tooled around for the last ten years doing little to impress me. He's a tough, dirty, middle weight. I think we can do better.

I wouldn't mind these 2 but I think we'd be upgrading our lower lines which isn't really the problem right now...

our main problem is that we have too many soft players who decide when to show up and when not to... we need guys who know their job as an NHL player, to play 100% every game... if we can get rid of softies and floaters like dackell, juneau, perreault, audette... and replace them with guys who have grit and heart then we will be improving our team for sure... to play team defence you need everyone's 100% effort.... we aren't getting that with this lazy team... drake and mayers would be a great replacement for a few or our softies but who have some value , like perreault, juneau....

I like the idea of mayers, big and he has some wheels on him... plus as was said above, right now he will probably come fairly cheap
He would be a great addition to our team
Drake would be ok too, but definently getting up there in age

yeah... drake is 34 but we need some good veteran leadership with all the kids on the team... saku cant do it all.
and drake is a leader on and off the ice... unlike koivu whi is mostly on-ice leadership. I would love to have Drake wear an "A" for the Habs...........

I agree that we need a tough veteran type player, with offensive touch, but I don't think that describes Dallas Drake. His best year is 45 points, which is not all too offensive if you ask me, especially for his BEST offensive season. Last year was his first season scoring 20. At 34 I don't see the point in giving something up for him this year. If we really want a player with some offense, and veteran leadership, Steve Thomas can be signed without giving anything up. As for Jamal Myers, If he took one of the soft players spots like Dackell, sure get him. But I don't really see it as a big upgrade. Just my thoughts.
