As the injury totals continue to pile up a market could develop for some of the excess baggage that the Habs are carrying.
If Dykhuis was picked up as a 5th or 6th defenceman, it would be nice to see someone of 3rd line caliber in return. Would St. Louis be a possibility?
Similarly, problems in Chicago and Washington combined with injuries in Detroit and Atlanta could provide destinations for players like Perreault or Audette. These guys aren't ENTIRELY without talent but they do absorb too much salary. If the Habs could swallow some of the contract perhaps there could be a meagre return in a trade.
The key would be to pick up enough talent that it could be packaged together in order to get that player we really need.
My choice would be a big strong center who could play second or third line (acquiring a first line center would be beyond my imagination).
I wouldn't want someone who is 32 or 33 years old. Somone who is 27 or 28 would be perfect. By the time he would be ready to retire, Urkle might be ready to step in and assume that role.

All the players we want to get rid of are also players nobody else wants - they are so far down the food chain that only microbs see them as tasty meals. Dykhuis and Audette could hace been had for waivers this year/last year and neither were picked up. In fact if teams wait just a bit longer they might have another crack at Audette again. Perreault could have been traded at last years trading deadline for his faceoff prowess but there were no takers. All these guys are just to limited in what they offer. I'm sure other GM's don't see these players as filling the holes for us ------ they are the holes. So why should they be the answer to their own problems. But I'm like other habs fans as well...sure, if we can get rid of them for a 9'th round pick and a baloney sandwich, I'm all for it
