If they can get Joffrey Lupul in a deal with Anaheim, go for it. I think that kid is for real. What a concession by Comrie though.

There seems to be a rumour circulating in LA that Comrie was traded to LA with a few picks (conditional?) for Frolov and Aulin earlier today. No news of it yet, so it seems unlikely.

From The Fourth Period (so take it for what its worth):
Comrie talks heating up TheFourthPeriod.com
With several teams in the hunt for Edmonton holdout Mike Comrie, trade talks between the Oilers and a number of clubs are starting to intensify.
The Mighty Ducks of Anaheim have offered top prospect Joffrey Lupul and a draft pick to the Oilers, reports the Edmonton Sun, while the Philadelphia Flyers have apparently offered Michal Handzus and another player.
Lowe is also believed to be interested in Flyers defensemen Jeff Woywitka and Dennis Seidenberg.
To entice teams further, agent Rich Winter says Comrie is willing to sign a contract for less than the $1.13 million qualifying offer tendered by the Oilers last summer with any team that obtains him.
“Mike is willing to take less money to facilitate a trade,” Winter told the Sun. “He is willing to take less than what his qualifying offer is from the Oilers.”
Meanwhile, the San Jose Sharks and struggling Montreal Canadiens are also said to be interested in Comrie. Marco Sturm of the Sharks, and Chris Higgins of the Habs may be names involved in potential discussions.
-----------------------------
There is also a poll on the main page where it asks where you think comrie will most likely end up, and Montreal is #1 right now, with 37% of the votes (http://vote.sparklit.com/poll.spark/383205)
----------------------------
Giving up Higgins is tough, but if were getting back Comrie whos scored 30 goals, it may end up being an interesting move. Hard to quit on a guy like Higgins whos been a big Habs fan all his life.

Seems more like TFP speculating that Higgins would have to be part of the package than it being an actual rumor.

While Comrie's 30 goals are enticing, the fact that he is willing to walk out on his team because he was criticized is not.
I would pass on Comrie. Let's say Gainey gives up a guy like Higgins to land Comrie, and then a couple of seasons later, Comrie demands a trade from the Habs because the Montreal management or media criticized his play at the end of the season. What are the Habs left with then?
If he did it once, what's to say he won't do it again. This guy seems like a spoiled brat. We don't need to add him to the list of other spoiled brats that are currently wearing the CH.

I'm not trying to defend Comrie, but ever since hes joined the organization hes seen that once a player becomes somewhat of a star, they are traded off to restart the cycle. This probably frustrates Comrie, but it still isnt a reason to hold out.
Higgins is the type of guy I see staying with the Habs his whole career, what should have happened with Muller and Keane. We could give up 15 year of Higgins for 5-7 years of Comrie (hed go for the big bucks once he becomes UFA most likely), just doesnt seem to help the Habs that much at this point.

One of my problems, with the Habs, is lack of character / leadership. I don't want to trade away a potential future captain for a whiney overrated brat. I pretty much loathe players that pull the crap that Comrie has with Edmonton.

I know that Ya$hin held out even though he was under contract, but the fact that both he and Comrie walked out on their teammates for no reason, speaks volumes about the type of character they have. If I were GM of the Habs, I wouldn't touch selfish players like that with a ten-foot pole. Even though it's only a rumour, it would be a shame if a strong team player like Higgins was traded for a spoiled brat like Comrie.
