It feels like all we've done all period is dump the puck out of our zone

We're not coming out of our own end smoothly and that's partly because Gonchar is out and he's pretty good at moving the puck. It should be Gilbert's strong suit and he seemed ok, but Emelin had some bad passes. Detroit is right on top of us, so my usual question is if they can keep it up. They've worked very hard that first period and my guess is that Babcock wanted them to get a jump on us, since we don't usually get off to a good start. If they could have gotten a 2 goal lead, they can defend very well and then it may have been lights out. They didn't score, so now, if that was the strategy, they've burned off some capital that they won't have for the next 2 periods. Can we take advantage? If things progress as normal, we should get stronger as the game wears on. We'll see. We haven't really tested Howard much. Very little blockage of view.

Shots 7-6 for us, wouldn't know it by looking at the territorial game.

We've lost a lot of board battles as well and I wouldn't want to see our face off stats because I think they're bad too. But all that is a factor of effort. I just hope Detroit's blown their wad. If they keep it up, it'll be a tough game to win.

What a pace ... hoping for more time in the Detroit end in the second ... would like to see Weise pot one ... anyone on the top line for that matter ...
Cheers.

Just looked at the face-offs, not good, 3-11. Weird game though. Wings had the puck for 75% of it it seemed, but didn't get much, other than Helm, on Carey. PK and Markov had good chances on Howard.

Do the Wings never take penalties? They seem to hold sticks and grab and interfere a lot. DD's line is getting hemmed in a fair bit tonight.

With very few exceptions the ice has been tilted towards the Habs end ... good shift by the 4th line ...

I've seen where guys forechecking, get their sticks into the hands of the dman, like that Wing did there on Beaulieu get called. Unfortunately, Beau can't fall down or we'll get called.

I can't see Detroit having another gear to shift up into. They're working as hard as they can. I don't think we are, but that's ok, save it for the playoffs.

If DLR stays with Eller, do we have a Viking line?

Babcock coaches them to do a lot of marginal stuff. It's not quite enough to look bad, but it gives them advantages. If you can flop a bit, you'll get some calls. We can't. One Wing had a hold of a stick and it was quite obvious and the refs let it go. At some point they do have call the Wings or they'll be disobeying "Game Management" rules.

Howard twice lucky on that last sequence. He didn't know where the puck was each time.

How about a double-minor? Wings go off for a hook...then on the delayed call, Subban has his arm held for 5 seconds.

We finally get one, but PK had his stick held as he was trying to exit on the delayed call.

Our PP continues to lack any semblance of a system.
Subban tries to do it all....and we almost get burnt.
Great backcheck by Max.

Subban owes Pacioretty big time ... I guess that sort of thing happens in the game but it's magnified when you're someone like Subban ... man alive ...

Subban makes two bone head plays on the same play ...
He telegraphs that shot. I'm still waiting for him to change it up and attempt a quick wrister. It doesn't allows have to be a cannon. The cannon is easy to block.
Then he tries to make up for blowing the tire, and whiffing the shot , but icing the puck .... I sometime question the IQ

I don't know how Therrien can do it, but I think he should limit PK's time on the PP. Play him no more than half. I'm watching the Islanders-Rangers game while my internet feed stops every 5 seconds, and saw a 3 on 1 for the islanders. The winger carried the puck up and passed it to the trailer right after crossing the blue line. That forced the dman to cover toward the middle. The trailer immediately passed it back and the winger roofed it high glove side for a goal. All because the passes started early and fast. Just like Skilly has stated. That's what PK has to do. Move the puck, not hold onto it. Until he gets the message play him only half the time on the PP. On that earlier play 4 on 4, we had a break and yes, it was late into his shift, but he didn't even take a shot. There was a point where he could have wristed it at the net and then broke for his bench to change. We could have had some havoc in front of Howard. Oh well.

Our PP continues to lack any semblance of a system. Subban tries to do it all....and we almost get burnt. Great backcheck by Max. PK usually stays on for the entire 2 minutes of a PP (the entire 4 minutes of one earlier this week), and he is suppose to be the PP QB, No one will say it, but he has to start taking the bulk of the blame for the PP. Can he be the PP general or not? So far I don't think he can. He wants to make everything flashy, and successful PP typically get garbage goals not highlight reels
