Osgood apparently has an ankle sprain and does things take a looooooong time to heal. Just ask Brent Johnson. Here's hoping Snow and DiPietro suck and Mad Mike feels the pressure to get a veteran for the stretch drive........
and who else better than Jeff Hackett? Free agent to be...so no commitment for next year when DiPietro will be ready........
I hope AS doesn't tell him...''forget it Mike..we ain't dealing him to the East''...if MM ever shows some interest...Savard better do ANYTHING possible to get a Dave Scatchard or an Isbister in that deal. The only way AS should accept a Hackett to NYI deal is if we get what we are lacking of in a deal. Big, strong and tough players who can play physical. Either up front or on defence(Cairns).

Marc,
you sure like to dream...I like it too..
But I don't think he will get traded...in case theo gets hurt..
would you see us in a playoff race at the end with Garon in net....
so unless it's a crazy offer, hacks will be a pine rider for us for the rest of the year

even if Theo gets hurt...I mean it's not like we are cup contender or something........
Habs are still building and guys like Scatchard and Isbister would be here for 5-6 years. That totally outweighs(sp?) one playoff run where Habs won't win cup even if everything goes their way

Both Osgoode and Carines were injured last night...maybe a Hackett and Traverse package would be in the works. ;D

Yeah but if we don't make the playoffs by a point or two because Theo gets hurt and Garon can't keep us in games (remember last year's trip in the west) we will want his head on a plate..but if he doesn't trade hackett and loses him without getting anything in return, we will want hi head on a plate..This is a no win situation for AS.. And about Scatchard and Izzy The problem is it's probably not on the table... Me all I wish for is a draft pick in the first three rounds..and I don't think we'll get it

Why people are worrying about Theo getting hurt ? It's not like he is injury prone ... and it's not like goalies often gets hurt. If ... Markov gets hurt, or if Koivu gets hurt ... (which is way more likely) then we'll be glad to have a Scatchard or an Isbister or a Cairns. Even though it's doubtful we could get such return, you never know with mad mike. Wasn't he the one who dealt Bertuzzi, McCabe and a third for Linden ? Anything can happen...

The guy is an idiot and totally agree on the Theo getting hurt thing...I mean can't you say that about NJ with Brodeur? or the Laffs without the Eagle? or the Sens without Lalime? or Oilers without Salo? or Canucks without Cloutier? if their number 1 goes down, they are pretty much done as well...

those stats are great on garon, but you also have to take into account on which team garon is playing. hamilton is by far superior to any other team in the ahl. and from what i've heard garon's never had any trouble posting good numbers in junior and the ahl, it's just at the nhl level that he's bombed in what little chances he's gotten. well i for one am looking forward to his arrival, i think he'll be a great back up for us next year, if we can get him signed over the summer. because there's really very little chance of him getting those 12 games minimum without the occurrence of both a trade and an injury... just won't happen.

yeah, i think the time has come for us to gamble a bit, and not worry about theo getting injured. hackett has to go very soon, or we won't be able to get anything for him at all. this could be the perfect opportunity for us to deal him, and i'd be very dissapointed if milbury is forced to look elsewhere if AS does not want to comply. the possibilities are endless, who knows what mad mike might be willing to offer up ;D

I don't see a deal with an eastern team until we are very close to the deadline. If we were to deal with NYI we would probably get Snow ( i'd love Dipietro) in return as it is rare for a goalie to be involved in a trade without another goalie going the other way. In any event i agree that we should get the best we can for Hack. i don't see this as a gamble as it is unlikely theo will get hurt and if he does then we get another look at Garon to see if he's ready so we know whether to keep him. If all that means we don't make the playoffs so be it. Bad luck. But as was said we are not going anywhere this year and i would rather use our assets like hack now to get our ducks in a row for the next few years then see them leave with nothing in return. Hanging on to assets too long so we got minimal return was one of Houle's great faults and AS should know better.

Why do you say he's gone this summer? Wouldn't he be a RFA, not a UFA? UFA if he doesn't play 12 games up here(at least 30 minutes per game) He has been in the minors for too long. That is why.

And since he's the same age as Théo I can't imagine his ambition is to be backup. Besides his agent made noises in the French press last summer about his client moving on, and establishing his NHL career with a team that will play him as a starter. He said that Garon was rotting away in the Habs system.

Our only hope would be with CJ telling him he would be assued of 20-25 starts. It's probely AS best asset in the minors...Best=the closer one to NHL...He won't lose that for nothing...Hackett will be gone by the all star break(my take) and there is plenty of time to have him playing 12 games

Sorry but I don't see how Garon plays in 12 games after the all-star break if habs are in a playoff race. Maybe if they are out of it though.
But maybe just trading Hackett and getting Garon up here will make him feel part of the Habs organization once again and he will sign with us..

In any case I think Savard will have to pull a wabbit out of a hat to keep Garon in the fold. I wonder what strings he had to pull to get Mathieu to skate by waivers in order to end up in Hamilton earlier in the season? Or were other clubs just that ignorant of his talent? Or were they just not interested in having an unproven $1million goalie when they could have a veteran backup for half that cost?

dumb question but i forget... If a UFA agrees to terms with another team can his present team match the offer and thus keep the player. if so then i don't see Garon getting much more than we are presently paying him and we could simply match if we feel we need a backup.

Why would Garon want to sign anywhere else? With Hackett gone how many teams can pretty much hand him an NHL roster spot. There will be no competition in MTL unless Fiset decides to give it another crack!

Garon is 25 years old... forget AHL stats, they are virtually meaningless... if you can't secure a job in the NHL by 25, you should give up your dreams (because that's all they are, dreams) of being a starter in this league. With all the hot shot young goalies emerging and being drafted nowadays, from Luongo to Giguere to Theodore, Lehtonen, Fleury, Blackburn, DiPietro, Biron, Noronen, Miller... it just goes on... this guy is nothing more than pure back-up material, if that. Dafoe, a proven multiple 30+ game winner, couldn't even land himself a starting job until months into the season, and that was with the worst team in the league. Garon's true potential? Dwayne Roloson; and that's giving him the benefit of the doubt.

if montreal is going to make the big trade in the east and send hackett to a new home, i am not sure the isle is the right place. first of all, i agree that milbury will probably stick with the snow-dipietro combo unless he absolutely needs to do otherwise, and personally i don't really want hack competing against us for a play-off spot(i'm almost positive AS feels the same way). second of all, i think a better deal could be reached with philly; the flyers have to be serious about the play-offs this year, they want to be cup contenders(with bringing in hitchcock and what not), and the biggest hole in those plans is the gaping hole in the net, czeckmanek(sp?) is awful, and they aren't going to get anywhere with him; i think hackett could shine on philly, and it is not going to hurt our chances to make the play-offs, if i'm remembering correctly i don't think we have any games left against philly, so hack will just be stoning the isles and other competitors for that coveted 8th spot in the east! oh and the sweetest part about a deal with the flyers is this: with justin williams out philly is looking for a scoring winger! we have an excess of scoring wingers(although they don't seem to be scoring for us), could you imagine if *fingers crossed* we could unload audette! ;D yes i realize this all just a dream. but hell, even if AS isn't going to trade hackett in the east, can't he still give philly audette? hows about audette for brashear? hows about audette for a bag of pucks?

Evgeny Nabokov: 25 years old when he became San Jose's starter Ed Belfour: 25 years old when he played his first NHL game, later became Chicago's starter Patrick Lalime: 22 years old when he became Pittsburgh emergency starter, sent down, lost NHL job, only regained it at 25 years old with Ottawa Dominek Hasek: 25 years old as backup in Chicago, starter in Buffalo only when 28 Marty Turco: 25 years old when he played his first NHL game as backup in Dallas, 27 years old before he became Dallas starter Need I go on? ;D

maritimer makes a very valid point. next season garon will be assured an nhl level spot by the canadiens unless one of our other prospects stops absolutely everything. so why would he want to go sign with someone else where he is almost definitely gonna have to be their #3?

Please do.... I'll even help you out, Manny Fernandez is another... remember, for every Nabakov there is a Rick Knickle, and countless nameless, faceless goalie prospects who just never panned out... plus a number of European guys (just like the players) often only come over at an older age.... but anyways, obviously not every single goalie in the history of the NHL was a starter at 18 years old... the difference is, there were less teams and less jobs to be won then (not to mention a number of those late bloomers showed the were NHL caliber before being starters) and now with 30 teams, you got a guy who couldn't crack the line-up, plus with all the big-time young goalies in the league, these guys get weeded out. I never said he'd never make the big leagues, he could be pretty good, a decent back-up, Roloson's no slouch you know... but you do see this guy starting 50+ games for you? I don't.
