Sylvain Blouin is back with Habs for a 7th rounder.
I don't know about you, but I can name a lot of goons I'd rather have in the line-up over this guy.
I was starting to think AS didn't want just a goon, but was possibly going for team toughness, but Blouin really is nothing but a goon.
At least get a young guy like Todd Fedoruk that's a better fighter and at least has some potential to be a player.

Is he going to Hamilton? is he staying here? what's the deal? Where was he? AHL? ECHL? HA's beer league?

He's been with Minnesota, but only played 2 games this year.
He's a minor league goon, no more. So why did we have to give up a 7th rounder for that???
If AS can't rate tough guys and target which ones are actually decent, then he needs to stop giving up assets to get pathetic knuckle-draggers.

but is he coming with us? is he going to the AHL? If he is coming to the NHL level, someone is going down or we have a 2 for 1 deal coming up soon

Not sure I understand this one. As Marc says, where is he going to play? We already don't have enough room on the roster, and with Ribeiro close to coming back, that room gets even smaller. Is Savard planning on solving the goaltending problem within the next 2-3 weeks? Do they need an enforcer in Hamilton?
Can't says I like it, based on first-impression, face value. Blouin isn't anything special, either as a player or a fighter, and while a 7th rounder is a low pick, Savard tends to deal an awful lot of picks, and in this case I don't think it was worth it. Might as well just have poached Mike Brown for free, really.
Strange.

Everyone seems to be waiting for this monster deal to go down, but I just don't see it happening.
I like what AS has done for the most part, but he's made nothing by safe deals with little risk so far, and I just don't see him changing his style anytime soon.
As for this trade, I have no idea why it was made, and it should be treated as just a footnote, not as an indication of something to come.
Blockbuster trades usually don't begin with a Blouin trade.

Might as well just have poached Mike Brown for free, really. Strange. Took the words right from my mouth BC...or at least my keyboard. I realize Anaheim had first crack and they picked Brown up off waivers, but there are just so many better fighters out there than this guy we already had and let go.

For you anglos: Habs acquire Blouin from Wild (posted Oct. 31, 12:30PM EST) MINNESOTA -- The Minnesota Wild have traded left winger Sylvain Blouin to the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for a 7th round pick in the 2003 NHL Entry Draft. Blouin, 28, appeared in two games with the Wild this season and recorded four penalty minutes. He appeared in a total of 86 games with the Wild totaling seven points and 293 penalty minutes after being selected by Minnesota from Montreal in the 2000 NHL Waiver Draft. WHY?Here is the Hamilton roster: www.hamiltonbulldogs.com/web_pages/hbd_team.php?1036086932066They already have O'Dette there I don't get it...is there another trade on the verge of being completed? Who goes down to make room for Blouin? Can't send Hainsey down with Q's injury..Lindsay? being released?

BTW, at least it's not Denny Lambert Did Quintal's injury force this trade? did MT go into AS's office and told him to get a goon before our tough weekend?

The depth Monger strikes again another useless pick for an equally useless player. why does he bother anyhow

See that's what bothers me...why do it?
Bring up O'Dette, he can get beat up just as well as Blouin.
There's at least a dozen goons in the AHL right now better than Blouin.

-------------------------- Guess we can say this is the end for Odjick!

Wow that AS sure is a gambling man. His idea of gambling is pushing his volvo to 101km/hr on the highway. I just don't see the point of this deal. What can Blouin do that O'dette can't. I don't know how you can justify even having this guy in the lineup at defense, unless you go with seven defenseman. Even then this guy is not going to make anyone shake in their boots with fear. I guess a 2nd tier GM needs to get a 2nd tier enforcer. Doesn't AS know the phone number to the lightning or the panthers, they have lots of extra enforcers. I just don't understand the logic behind this move, hopefully i'm missing something.

Zenseeker, he's a forward.
You are right though...The Bolts have Roy and Dingman...they could have dealt one...the Panthers have plenty of tough guys...they could have dealt one.
So our 4th line? Blouin-Kilger-McKay?
Does Lindsay get released? do we make a trade?
That is what leaves me confused.

Joey Tetarenko is twice the scrapper that Blouin is, and a young leader in the room. The Panthers had him available in the waiver draft, so I'm sure we could have had him for the same, or less.

well, this answers my question.
So...when Q-ball comes back, what happens?

Simple. When Ouintal comes back, Blouin will be on waivers. What the holy hell is going on in Habland I doubt this is the precursor to anything else but one can always hope.

At least he's a forward. Ya know i remember the habs having some soft teams but they always had a Kordic, Ewen, Brashear, or knuckles Nilan. It's a given when you have a softer team you have to have an uber enforcer, not a punching bag on skates. There must be a happy crack dealer in Montreal because the coaching staff and the team's management must be smoking some. I'm going to have to go play my general manager hockey simulation game to make myself feel better. At least there the habs have some toughness.

my sentiment's on AS are shrinking even more now. unless somehow there's a logical explanation. This just adds another useless piece to an increasingly difficult situation now we have another extremely low valued piece. I can't even see this guy serving any kind of purpose for the farm.
A completely senseless and trivial move just aimed at sparking more speculation maybe who know's.
It just donned on me this is the opposite of what i would like to see instead of moving deadweight for a pick we send a pick for more deadweight.
this year's squad is gonna have a new name last year was team destiny or team courage
this year i'll call them team titanic or team useless veteran.

I heard Pierre Macguire comment on how good PJ Stock is looking these days. His point is well-taken. He may not be a true heavyweight, but he can sure handle himself, he's afraid of no one, he can play a bit, and his teammates love him.

Do we have to make roster space for him? I suppose he would clear waivers if we wanted to send him to the minors. Cmon Andre, do something to get us really talking!

Excellent point BC AS always seems to be making these lateral deals which include draft picks. Mike Brown would be a better pick up IMO also, does he have a current contract,if so that may have been a factor. HFTO
