Hi all, First let me just thank you all for the information you provided through this board about our favourite club, the Habs. Since the beginning of the season, the first thing I do when I come to work every morning is check the new posts on HabsRus. You people have been my eyes and ears, often my brain too . See, for a few years now I've been in no position to watch NHL games 'cause no network that I have access to here in Croatia broadcasts NHL games. So, I have to rely solely on Internet and I consider myself really lucky to have found you. thanx Marc, HA for the welcome. well, as I said, Saku is the reason I'm a Habs fan today. when I was growing up and started to follow hockey (in the late '80s), there were many russian players playing hockey in former Yugoslavia so I became a fan of the Red army team. but, as they were the only real force in international hockey, it wasn't much fun. as I was following WCs and winter Olympics the play of the finnish national team started to catch my eye: great skating, tons of effort, no real stars and also they were kind of underdogs among the elite (Canada, USSR, Czechoslovakia, Sweden) teams. so I became a fan of the Finnish team. then came the Olympics in 1994, Lillehammer Norway I believe (you canadiens should remember it well), and the WC the same year and I saw a player by the name of Saku Koivu. you could say it was love at first sight (no, I don't mean his cute like some other poster here who I won't name  ) as he came to Canada to play for the Habs, I started to cheer for them too. before that, I didn't have a favourite NHL club, but cheered for the canadien clubs in general. I hate to admit it, but the Habs were my least favourite canadien team at the time because of all the success they enjoyed in the past. as you can see, that changed and here I am. If you're wondering why I didn't mention the Croatian national team or some croatian player, well, all I can say is that being a hockey fan in Croatia is a really humbling experience. We have 3 or 4 closed rinks and one open in the whole country and a grand total of 4 clubs! our national team just finished last placed at the Division 1 WC and next year we'll probably play with the likes of Bulgaria, Kenya, China and god knows who (no disrespect intended towards anyone). you can see I'm getting a little frustrated here. sorry for the long post but I'haven't had the chance to complain to anyone about this for a looooong time.
