I don't buy the Tanguay in play rumour either.
Saku and Tanguay had some nice chemistry going before the injury, and Saku's offensive production had dropped like a bomb since then. Gainey will see the Tanguay addition to the lineup adding one offensive guy and potentially restarting another. Not to mention this team has not exactly been an offensive Juggernaut with all these injuries. You don't trade away an area of potential weakness going into the stretch run.
A Kovalev for Cole deal would make more sense. Both teams get something back and Cole actually brings a fair bit to the table and his game is much improved of late, after a horribly slow start in E-town. I just don't see Gainey trading Kovalev before the deadline though after all his personal time he has invested in kick starting Kovvy a few times over the last few seasons. I see a bit of joint loyalty there from both parties.
However, it is a business and Gainey may get an offer that blows his socks off...at least by tomorrow night puck drop all this silliness will be over and it will be back to business as usual, winning hockey games!

I don't see any further change at all happening. It would be very ungainley, I mean unGainey. He has his 4th line addition in Metropolit and the defensive depth acquisition in Janik (hoots of laughter break out in the asylum). The best way to improve this team big time is by Bob going behind the bench anyway.

Totally unrelated comment [well, somewhat]: Jason York yesterday . . .

Pronger is off the table. Anaheim no longer accepting offers.

Pronger is off the table. Anaheim no longer accepting offers. Hate it. He's the guy that would have changed the dynamic of our defensive corps.

Pronger is off the table. Anaheim no longer accepting offers. The right offer comes along and that might just change. I don;t see bob upping the ante enough to do it, though . . . and I'm not sure I'd want him to [there'll be enough idiot moves today, we don't need him joining in].

Same hand that he broke earlier. Xrays today.

McGuire is on TSN, speculating Dandenault might end up in Calgary.

I think it has more to do with Niedermeyer. One would think he'd want to play next year and then play for Canada at the Olympics, but he may be on the fence again. Until they know what he wants to do it's prudent to keep Pronger. Pronger has a year left. They can trade him after the season and get as much for him.

Thought is that Niedermeyer will return [for the Olympics] . . . you're right, though, Pronger's value will not go down [unless he is injured]

Pronger's value will go down. The difference in value of Pronger for 2 playoff runs compared to his value for 1 playoff run is drastic IMO.

Bouwmeester to Vancouver for Mason Raymond, Kevin Bieksa and a 1st round pick is the latest rumour circling the mills.

(sorry I had to .... ) If we can get Bieska, Raymond and a 1st for Komi I'd do it. Bieska can replace the grit, Mason Raymond is another excellent goaltending prospect and a first is a first. Of course, no way does Komi net that kind of return.
