I was humming this song at work and one of my Polish girls who was barely six months in Canada started to sing the lyrics. To say I was surprised is an understatement. A young woman, from a small town in Poland, who barely spoke English, singing a song that was older then her....a small thanks to "pirating"!
Music, the great uniter.....

before the week begins . . . I love that the backup singers are moving side to side doing karate chops. That video is priceless.. even more so than the song. Thanks for sharing franko!

1968. Amboy Dukes....with 19-year-old Ted Nugent on his trademark Gibson Byrdland.
Ted certainly wasn't a one-hit wonder...but this band was.
Peaked at #16 in 1968.
Great tune....one of my favourite of the era. When that song came on AM radio, I was 9....and it was awesome! Filled with guitar and vocal hooks. A workout for the bass player, too.

Heard this this morning . . . don't remember hearing anything else by him though he has -- what -- 14 albums; a new one just out? [go ahead -- prove me wrong]

Great stuff, franko. Steve Forbert.....reminds me of the one and only Randy Vanwarmer.
And another band that charted once, reaching #3 in 1973 with "Smokin' in the Boys Room"....Brownsville Station.
"Barefootin'" didn't make the cut.....
Can't believe that drummer's outfit....egads.

Nope it was a bad one . . . bad bad bad. I challenged the one-hit wonder status with a song from another band Caught it in time though . . . something didn't feel right and it was a right feeling. Talking of "right" . . .

Crowbar's "Oh What a Feeling" is often thought to be a Rare Earth song along the lines of "I Just Want To Celebrate". Was that it?
;D "I'm Too Sexy" will always remind me of a family wedding we attended back at that time. The young priest stayed for the reception and by the time this song came on, he had lost his jacket, his collar, and any semblance of piety. In fact, we started making up new lyrics on the spot:
I'm too sexy for my jacket... Too sexy for my collar.... Too sexy for the Pope....
Fr. Boogie was his name for the rest of the night.

Nope -- for some reason "Make Me Do Anything You Want" came to mind as Crowbar . . . but didn't sit right . . . a "doh" moment and I remembered Foot in Cold Water.
Did you know . . . Rare Earth was the first white band signed to Motown Records?

Somehow I knew someone would mention A-ha. They might be a one hit wonder in NA but internationally (and especially in Europe) they are definitely not. Lots of hits and lots of fans over many years (they are still making successful albums and touring).

Rare Earth was the first white band signed to Motown Records? Yes....cause I just read it the other day.... Here's a classic from 1970. Although it wasn't a touring band. Edison Lighthouse was a studio-only vehicle for singer Tony Burrows....who later went on to sing lead for other one-hit wonder bands.....White Plains "My Baby Loves Lovin'", Brotherhood of Man "United We Stand", and the aforementioned in this thread, The Pipkins "Gimme Dat Ding". He also sang lead on "Beach Baby" by The First Class. So, Tony Burrows isn't a one-hit wonder....but his bands were.

The O'Kaysions. 1968. Never recorded a second album.
Lead singer looks like a cross between John Fogerty and Steve Martin.

They may have charted one other song (can't think of one off the top of my head) but certainly nothing as popular as "Go All The Way"...one of the great "makeout songs" of the 70's. Some of you may recognize lead vocalist Eric Carmen who went on to establish a very rich solo-career.
I chose this video of the song because it featured both an excellent "live" performance as well as legendary guests Billie-Jean King and Joe Namath. The Mike Douglas Show was always an after-school must-see.

So many comments that could be made . . . so little time. Who's that playing bass? Hank Kingsley? Dude looks just like Jeffrey Tambor. Freeze it at 1:02 or shortly thereafter.

"I just wanna be with you" -- tonight's the night before Rod Stewart used the lyrics . . . charted but died. Eric Carmen had a decnet career following. Ah, the early 70s . . .
